It was a true honor to take a class with Chef McHugh. He has a passion for food and wine, and genuinely cares about the students in the course. It's mostly participation based, so try to make it to class. There was only a short quiz half way through and a final. Its not about the grade it's about the experiences.

So, I didn't know anything about wine or how food related to it. A few weeks in to the class, i am recognizing types of wine i like and able to describe them to my friends. Then we did this food pairing class that opened up another world to me. Now when I go out , my friends give me the wine list to select from!!!

No words truly describe the charismatic charmer that is Chef Dave (David). His CA167 was a wealth of knowledge and experiences that I will treasure. As a first time college attendee Dave made it an easy transition and provided knowledge and guidance that was crucial in making decisions. HIGHLY recommend taking a class with Dave as it will be a joy!

This class was something special, unlike anything I have taken before. The teacher is a wealth of knowledge and his charming, approachable manner makes coming to class easy and enjoyable. He handled a delicate situation with a student disability very sensitively. I highly recommend taking this class.

Food... Wine.... analyzing how they compliment and enhance each other. Chef just speaks from the heart about these things. He is an active Professional Chef in his day job at USD. Brings hundreds of daily scenarios which apply to his lectures and help with keeping it real.

My findings are: The class is full of learning about how wine tastes and everyone brings in foods to pair. Half the students are in Culinary Arts class and everybody appreciates wines.Chef Dave is firm abour class rules but really fair.Once everybody figures that out, the class excels quickly. I now know: how to shop for it, my fav's and best pairs

Wow! Chef Dave can answer any question about any food or wine. We had bets if we could stump him and never happened.Last semester was so enjoyable, each take-home message has stayed with me and i utilize them every day. You can't miss more than three of 16 classes but with all the food and wine and information, availble who would want to!

I took this class last spring.Here're my findings.The instructor is quite practical,work-oriented & amusing.One shouldn't be afraid of not having enough snacks or food,let alone a lot of different wines to pair with.Yet he showed his diligence in teaching week by week.Because he kept perfecting it,it turned out to be one of the most unique classes

Very good instructor and chef. Great tour of wines from around the world. Used notes and dvd presentations versus text book. Excellent tastings every class. Comprehensive exams and blind tastings. Field trip lot's of fun. Chef Dave is a hoot. Enjoyed the class very much!

Great Teacher. He does talk a lot like everyone else has mentioned. But he is super nice. Takes the time to know everyone's name. Remember's who you are if see you around Campus. Really wants to help students understand food and the business. And he's funny!
