Comment:

I had Dr. Pilver in the late 1970's and early 80's. I am shocked by many of these reviews. I found her to be interesting and caring. My biggest surprise was that back then I was extremely conservative and she never criticized me for that. I guess things change with time. I have nothing but good memories. She basically refined my writing skills.

Comment:

The whole class is group-discussion based. It's relatively easy as all the work you have to do for the semester is on the syllabus. However aside from that nothing she instructs is clear and she's hard to understand. She'll ask your opinion on things and then tell you you're wrong if she doesn't agree. Nice woman, but super rude and unclear.

Professor Pilver's class is extremely boring and monotonous. Nice woman, but very liberal and vocal about it so if you don't agree be ready to get aggravated. Not much work, class is basically just going over readings and its easy to play 8ball pool at the same time. Not terrible, but not great.

Her tests weren't hard the assignments were easy. She asks you for your opinions and then tells you you're wrong. She's nice but mostly rude. She goes over everything you were supposed to read and its mostly group work. I didn't learn anything & politics confuses me even more now. Take State & Local Gov with someone else if you can.

Eh. You could find harder classes for your core but it's not really worth it. She will argue with your opinion so unless you're as liberal as she is be ready to be talked down to. Gives a couple of assignments through the semester and her criteria for grading gets a little wonky. Can BS in class without reading. Easy work, but eh. Don't take her.

She must have stock in a paper company because she will give you stacks of photocopied pages. Most of which are not applicable to anything. Shes a bright woman so dont try to play verbal ping pong with her unless you bring your A game. She could bring much more to the class but it appears shes just going through the motions. You cant avoid

I was warned about Professor Pilver before taking her Foundations class. I was pleasantly surprised by her teaching method and course work. She teaches by discussion, allowing students to understand the material through conversation and personal examples. BRILLIANT! A true graduate level class, but if you're lazy you should keep your distance.

Worst teacher I have ever had. The class I took was a mandatory one so unfortunately if you are PA major you can't avoid her. I would dread going to her class every night. She doesn't teach anything she simply asks her students to have open discussion but never puts forth her point of views. Not clear on assignments at all. THE WORST!

Can't believe the negative views on Dr. Pilver. She's awesome. Always willing to meet outside of class to discuss papers, questions, etc. My experience was at the graduate level. Communication is key -- I had no problem with Dr. Pilver.

really awful teacher- although there is no textbook required, she doesnt put any effort into helping her students pass and is unclear about assignments and their due dates. if you want to fill your core do POLS 101 instead

Had her for state and local government which is something i actually was interested in until i took this class. lets you use a full page of notes on test, grades hard on essays. There was always something wrong with every single thing I passed in. if you have her switch out asap

Everyone seems to not like her at all, and if she doesn't like you FORGET IT! Her class work-wise is so easy! She sticks to the syllabus. No quizzes, only "special assignments" SO EASY! 3 tests with take home, group optional essays and a cheat sheet for the in class portion. If you can figure out her style of teaching, the class isn't bad at all!

worst teacher ive had. she is terrible and doesnt know what she wants. only her opinion matters and yours will most likely be wrong. if you dont know anything about politics, good luck in this class. just a terrible class and she likes to kill trees with the amount of handouts she gives. tests are relatively easy because you can make a cheat sheet

very rude to students, told me my opinion was wrong! doesn't use a book. she hands out tons of papers which gets very confusing. doesn't have study guides for exams. the class would be good but with a different teacher. you ask her a question and she doesnt answer it. she talks about the most random things in class. DO NOT HAVE HER AS A TEACHER!!!!

Awful class. I always felt like i had no idea what was going on, tests were hard. Thank god for cheat sheets. She is an awful teacher. She wants participation, but don't bother unless you have the same opinion as her, otherwise she'll basically laugh at you and tell you to stop. Worst professor i ever had, do not take her class!

Had her back in 07' Had her at night class too. I was miserable because i worked during the day. She would yell at me because I would have to wear a uniform to class from work. Then she hated me because on the first day I expressed my view! I received an A, but would rather slit my throat then take her ever again.I learned nothing in that class.
