Dr. Pinckney is in the top 10 most influential people in my life so far. He's a tough teacher and demands effort. Extremely organized when I took his classes in the middle 2000's. Unfortunate that aren't getting tests back due to no TA's these days. If you rate based upon personality, that's not helpful here. Knows his stuff inside and out.

I was never able to see any of my tests even though I emailed him multiple times and talked to him in class every week. I passed, but barely. His office is a mess too, probably didn't see any of my tests because he couldn't find them. His excuse was he didn't have a TA.. like okay? I am overall disappointed about this class. Try to get Roby.

You can tell Warren really knows his stuff and is a brilliant man. He is super chill and laid back. But there is no HW and no real tests besides the midterm and final. And he doesnt put his powerpoints online. So if you miss something or dont go to class youre screwed. Long outdated powerpoint lectures. Dont fall asleep and youll be alright.

I do believe this is the same refined gentleman that taught at UCLA in the 1980's. I shall never forget this man or this class. He also was dressed in a nice jacket and tie, he is so smooth. I didn't like Frank Sinatra at the beginning of the class. But I sure did at the end.

I learned nothing from this class.... Everyday was a powerpoint lecture while he sprinkled in small amounts of useful material. The midterm was the only grade he returned all semester. Just go to class EVERY time and endure the endless boredom that is straight-from-powerpoint teaching, you should survive it. And yes...I am mad, bro.

one day he passed out crayons put on a song and told us to "draw our feelings" Complete waste of time. probably the least favorite teacher I have had at chico. we had 4 weeks left and not gotten 1 grade back including the midterm. Try to stay away from this class

Not too great of a teacher but considering the level of musical knowledge amongst music majors at chico state... i had to teach 3 semesters of piano to you boneheads and i can understand how that could bring such a calm old man to beating the crap out of his old lady when he gets home at night. maybe you all don't know about that one these days.

Between his chicken scratch power points and soft spoken voice (even with a mic) it was almost impossible to learn from him. Half the class is most likely taking it for the second time because he's the only teacher for this class unfortunately. Hard tests and quizzes, and homework was only collected for half the semester.

He is a horrible professor! People like him should not be teaching. He made our textbook optional but required the workbook and basically told us to answer the questions from getting the answer out of the back of the book. Totally pointless. He does not give us full credit on any assignments! Tests are ridiculously hard!! Don't take him!

Took both AFAM and songwriting from this baffoon. The absolute worst teacher I've ever had, at any school, anywhere. Confusing, vague, frustrating, arrogant, and rude are all words I would use to describe this guy.

Theory III...Several weeks in, he stopped collecting HW because of "the economy" and no TA's. Couldnt he grade it? He then based 20% of our grade off the 7 HW assignments with no chance to make up for the kids that missed a couple. Midterm was announced the class before the test. He showed a graph in class for grades...almost 60% fail rate. LOOK OU

I dont think Pinckney's all that bad. He's definitely weird but its a really easy class! And the midterm and final arent that hard, its all based off lecture notes. So you HAVE to attend every class.

Midterm and Final are impossible. His lectures are virtually irrelevant, yet you have to attend because he gives in-class quizzes that account for a great deal of the grade. Overall I would avoid this class if possible.

Horrible. Lectures are crazy...he gives like five stupid quizzes each lecture. Says "people" a lot, referring to class. Like, two tests. Homework is easy. Textbook is so boring, and fine detail. HORRIBLE teacher, but you really have no choice, he's like the only one to teach this. ughh...

Very rude, unhelpful teacher. Lectures are pointless and quizzes are almost impossible with out prior musical experience. Workbook was for 5th graders (coloring, unscrambling, etc). Grading system was awkward. Worst professor I've ever had. Could have been a cool class, but absolutely wasn't.

The class (AFAM 296) was a joke. It was packed full of busy work out of a poorly written workbook created by the professor. There is way too much busy work which does not contribute to learning. The professor was extremely rude at times, and treated us like an elementary class. Students opinions were ignored.

class is extremely boring, he gives out pop quizes so you need to attend class, quizes are often hard and/or vague. he is an afro-centric condesending elitist. we had to buy a $60+ "study book" which was just homeworks quizes he could have posted online. completely useless if you have questions. dont take a class from him!
