Comment:

I took Gary McDonald in Winter 2017 for STA 501. He is the most caring math professor at Oakland University. He genuinely wants you to understand the material. There were 3 exams and a final to end the class. You have hw every week too. The pace was perfect. You will pass if you pay attention and do the homework. He explains the material clearly.

Comment:

I think Professor McDonald is the professor to take if your afraid of stats. He was very helpful when I had trouble and was always willing to go over work. If you can't meet with him during office hours he will make time for you at your convenience (within eason of course).

Comment:

If you are dreading stats, take him! He will explain everything in ways that you can understand. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should attend so that you get it when he explains the material. Tests are ok, but do have a few tricky questions to test you on the concepts. A lot of hw but doable. Overall, I recommend highly.

Comment:

One of the best professors I have had at OU by far. He takes his time to explain everything. Grade is 3 tests, 1 final, hw assignments. Tests are 50 mc. They are a bit tricky but definitely doable. A 4.0 is very attainable if you do your hw (which is time consuming) and attend class. I really recommend him!

Comment:

Great professor. Moves at a slow pace so you can understand. Homework once a week, 3 exams plus a final. Going to class will help but isn't mandatory. 4.0 is very attainable. He gives extra credit toward the end of the semester to help your GPA. An goes through a review before each class period before exam. Nice, easy going professor.

Homework was extremely time consuming. Tests were somewhat straight forward but he threw in a few questions we have never discussed in class. Tests always took longer then the alloted class time.

I thought this class was great. The professor is extremely upfront about how he teaches. You know exactly what to expect on the exams and they were all open book. He also encourages the use of a calculator and demonstrates different functions on the calculator in class.

Excessive home work due one or two times per week. Tests were hard and took longer to finish than class allowed. Teaches from the book with limited non book example problems. I averaged about 20 hours per week outside of class working problems and studying for the exams.
