Had him for piano. As someone said above, taking piano with him is hell. I came in as a music major with very little previous piano knowledge and worked incredibly hard, and my efforts were mostly unnoticed; I typically got very poor grades within his class. ONLY TAKE PIANO WITH HIM IF YOU HAVE TAKEN PIANO LESSONS BEFORE/HAVE PIANO EXPERIENCE!

Mr. Martinez is a phenomenal pianist, but as a teacher, he can be extremely frustrating. He demands a lot from students doesn't teach them on an individual level. Instead, he patronizes students who can't do exactly what he wants the way he wants. He is especially hard on freshman because he's weeding out the people who "shouldn't study music."

Mr. Martinez is a nice guy and the class is pretty easy. However, just a fair warning, he is a pretty eccentric guy. He is easily offended and can turn moods pretty quickly. It's really not a big deal if you are nice to him and keep quiet in class, though.

Mandatory attendance drops you one letter grade for every class missed over two. Homework due every class. Midterm and Final are very easy.

He was a fun teacher. I was in the accelerated class, and some days, we would just listen to music. He is very smart (but don't talk to him about modern music) and very helpful in teaching piano. He ios one of the funniest teachers I've had so far, and one of the best as well.

AWESOME! Martinez is a major reason why TCU has the best piano program in the nation. I learned a lot of technique in his class that has dramatically improved my piano skills. Not only is he a great teacher but he's one of the coolest teachers I've met at TCU.

Great professor. Extremely helpful. Nice person. And excellent musician. Music Theory for non-majors is a very easy A class and you learn A LOT! He plays the piano sometimes during class which makes class even more enjoyable. If you have a question just send him an email and he answers pretty quick...I stronly recommend taking this class with him!!

Music theory for non-majors - Class was a blast. We got into it and joked around with him while covering the material. He's the nicest guy ever and is very flexible about his homework assignments and his tests are cake. Take if you want to learn basic music. I've heard his piano classes are hell, but he's a great guy.

Marty is cool but he runs his piano class like a dictator. He expects you to do a lot of work and care about the class. If you don't practice he might tell you you should just quit.

He makes the material really easy. Most of the grade comes from homework so if you do that you are in good shape. He is very flexible with late work, if you get behind. If you have problems he will help you. Good class.

Mr. Martinez was extremely helpful to me when I took this class! I have never taken music before, and his slower pace made things a lot easier to pick up! I felt like I actually understood. If you have had a lot of prior music experience this might not be the class to take, you could be bored.

Lighthearted, funny professor who will always help if you need it. Student opinions seem a bit mixed here at TCU, but my experience with him was very positive. He only tests twice and all the work is a breeze.

Easy, slow, works with students assuming they have no prior knowledge to music theory. Works well with students. Can work at a tediously slow pace, though. Cheerful, flexible, understanding. Really good for first year music students, and freshman.
