He is one of the best professors I ever had! Such an inspiring and hardworking person, even has his own wikipedia page! As long as you do the readings, you will pass every quiz given. The class topic is interesting, and he seems very concerned with human rights. If you want to learn meaningful stuff, take him!!!

very knowledgeable about a lot of subjects. pretty funny lectures(even if he doesnt mean to be). extremely accommodating if you approach him about something. learned a lot about science fiction literature and its relationship with society. i'd recommend the class as long as you dont mind reading a couple stories a night

He is knowledgable but doesn't take kindly to new ideas. You can politic to a good grade by spouting Marxist philosphy or regurgitating his lectures. This is graduate level English, yet there is no close reading and no flexibility for new ideas. Take ONLY if you are a conservative glutten for punishment or an extreme liberal (read: Communist).

Comment:

Science Fiction, Technology and Society is by far the most enjoyable literature class ever. Franklin is truly a pioneer of sci fi and knows oodles since he has been around for 73 years so far. Readings can be tough, but make sure you do all of it. Some quote quizes, original short story, and a final. Super guy. Take him before it's too late.

AMAZING guy. Take him if you happen to be on the militant left. Otherwise, your blood will be boiling at his lectures everyday. Make sure you read everyday though, that's the only sucky part about him. I took him as a freshman and he definitely made one hell of an impact on my young impressionable liberal mind.

This class was awful. I went into it extremely interested but Prof Franklin could simply tell you to read his books and call it a day. We mainly worked out of his books and he simply restated the same things in class. Insane amount of reading, smart guy but terrible professor. He is rude and does not like opinions that are against his own.

A LOT of reading/writing. One of the best professors and classes I have EVER taken! If you have time, read his book MIA. It is worth it! All you current students owe it to yourselves to take one of his courses. Stop crying that he is "too liberal"...he presents facts and encourages you to think outside the box!!

Be prepared to reeead. You'll have about 200 pages worth of reading to do for each class, and he gives pop quizzes on the most random stuff out of them. But if you do bad on pop quizzes, if you get the material right on the final, he boosts your grade. He seems to be pretty generous with grading, if you get most of the idea you get a nice grade

Just finished his class, i got a B in it. He can be a bit annoying cause he keeps u there until the very last minute of class, and during the exam he gets peeved that u dont take the whole time. Other than that, hes good, a little crazy...be prepared to read A LOT especially for the quizzes.

I'm liberal, but his class is nothing but propaganda. Expects his class to be top priority, which is impossible if you're taking a full load. He refuses any opions that do not coincide with his own. He's brilliant, but a horrible teacher. Don't take him unless you have tons of time on your hands, and you are into idol worship.
