One of my favorite professors ever! Lena is kind, encouraging, and hilarious. I love Lena because she tells students the truths about life, even if they don't want to hear it. I've learned so much from her and I'd recommend her to anyone!

The majority of each class is just going over the homework - in class she focuses mostly on getting students to speak and understand rather than teaching. She also gives COMPREHENSIVE study guides for each exam, but most of the class grade isnt based on exams- there are a lot of points coming from presentations, essays & extra-curriculars.

I had no previous experience with RPSS (Russian and Post-Soviet Studies) but Lena made this class doable and so enjoyable! Lots of reading and films, 3 2-page response papers, 1 Terms test (20% of grade), a group project, and a final paper. Very doable. I easily got an A in the class and learned so much. Lena is an amazing & invested prof.

Lena is absolutely hilarious. She's able to bring humor into Russian language study, which can be pretty dry. She's also fairly relaxed on due dates, but don't take advantage of it. Honestly just a great professor though.

Russian Media Culture and the accompanying main text Political Russian is one of the most practically useful Russian classes/texts I've taken/used. I only wish we could have gone through the entire textbook and done more speaking. Def a class to look out for (this was a new class)! Lena's really got a knack for keeping things fresh and interesting.

Lena is FANTASTIC!!! The Love, Adultery, and Prostitution class I took with her was spectacular and I looked forward to it every week to see what tangents the class would go on and to hear Lena's wry commentary. If you are a cultured person and appreciate literature, TAKE HER CLASS whatever it may be- it is definitely worth it!

Also Vampires -- Prokhorova is endearingly sardonic with an inexplicable Soviet charm. She is adventureous and accepting academically (ex: she loved my essay arguing that there is a gay cowboy in Dracula) and I would highly recommend her to anyone. Minor liberal LCST annoyances exist but are standard for the department.

Lena is great! Really flexable, always willing to explain something again, lets you know what she expects you to know for tests, and monologue day topics always result in bizarre/funny stuff. Learning really seems effortless (at least compared to Rus 101-102)

GREAT professor, lots of fun! You come out thinking it wasn't too hard, but realizing you learned a lot. Also, sympathetic to college students' schedules. She knows that when you're swamped, you're swamped, and thus can be negociated with on the occasional due date--just don't make it a habit.
