The only reason I took this class is because I needed it for generals, but I actually really enjoyed it! Professor Namie is awesome. She's down to earth and knows her stuff. She doesn't take attendance, but it's really helpful if you go. Tests and quizzes are online. If you do the reading and go to class, you will do well!

Namie knows her stuff. She's respectful, she's not LDS (it's refreshing, yet she is not disrespectful in any way to LDS), she answers everyone's questions, and she made me think. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you need to go to understand the material. There's a ton of reading, several essay quizzes, tons of online quizzes, exams are online.

I have had Joylin for the past 2 semesters: Research Methods,& Women food and the body. She is one of my favorite teachers ever. Extremely knowledgeable, interesting teaching methods,& helpful. The HW assignments are meaningful. She is not an easy teacher, you do have to work for your grade. As long as you do that you will get an A. Also no tests!

I've taken three classes with her. All I can say is that she is awesome, one of the best teachers I have ever had! She is friendly, organized, committed, clear and helpful. She keeps all of your grades logged on Canvas and it's really easy to know how you're doing. She gives clear instructions and she makes ASnthropology even better. She's amazing!

My experience with her wasn't positive. Found her to be: anal-retentively picky, have high expectations of students but not of herself (including IRB compliance), manipulative (including causing drama w/my other profs), & dishonest. The class was easy, boring actually. I got an A, but the psych roller coaster w/her is not a healthy place to be.

Great teacher. Anthropology isn't my cup of tea, but she made it interesting. You watch a few documentaries in class, which are interesting but some may not find particularly enjoyable. She's cares about student's success and she's really funny.

Joylin is a great professor. She obviously cares about your success in the class. Attendance every day isn't required but I would recommend going as much as possible. Do all the assignments, and the handful of extra credit in the class and its hard NOT to get an A grade. Seriously, she is a great professor. You leaner lots, and can get an A.

She is a real anthropologist but she had a huge tendency to rant. I found her class incredibly boring. I would maybe take a higher ANTH class from her because she does know her stuff but I think it is hard her her to teach the lower levels and it shows.

If you ever have a chance to take Women Food & the Body from her..DO IT. I think this should be a required class. Its amazing. Joylin is on top of it, she actually gives you feedback on assignments & responds quickly to emails. No attendance. 20, 1-2pg responses (easy..just your own opinion) & a group presentation..no tests. Fave prof at UVU!

DO NOT TAKE DURING THE SUMMER unless you like doing lots of homework. Other than that this prof. knows what she is talking about and responds to e-mails quickly, sticks to the syllibus, and will let you know what she's looking for in assignments.

One of the best professors I have had at UVU. Always has something to teach. You never feel like you are wasting time in class. Great personality and is "real" with her students. It was one of the more demanding classes I took that semester, but I learned so much. The lessons and assignments really help you see the world in a better way.

Joylin is a phenomenal professor. Interesting material, thoughtful lesson planning, sticks to the syllabus. Very effective in teaching material. Understands students and respects their time- no busy work. You work to get a good grade but definetely get your money's worth. Hope to take more classes from her even though I am not anth major!
