Marks was always willing to answer questions and explain things over again. He's a super understanding and laid back guy, but still a really effective prof. Definitely recommend.

Marks was a great teacher, I had forgotten a few assignment and I just asked if I could have an extra day and he said yes and never took off extra points. As long as you participate and try you should get an easy grade. He is pretty easy on grading.

I really liked Professor Marks. Homework and basically everything comes from the packet he assigns. He returns grades quickly and encourages you to come talk to him about any problems you have. Excellent teacher.

I hadn't taken Spanish since high school, and going into this class my junior year of college was intimidating. Marks made it easy though. He is a great teacher. Enthusiastic and willing to help. Regarding a previous comment, he said that we should drop the class as in take a lower level to develop our understanding. I would recommend Marks any day

I'm surprised at the F13 reviews.Marks explained that this had been his worst term in 20+ years due to many horrendous incidents. He was teaching in pain all semester and doing his best. He sincerely apologized for not meeting his own standards. Even so, I thought the class was good and would take him again. He cares. Earlier reviews show that.

This class was difficult but like all foreign language classes it takes time and effort to earn the grade you wish to get. Attendance is mandatory and it's also necessary that you do online homework daily. Overall, he was a fair grader and expects a lot out of you as a student.

Absolutely terrible. Gives little help on the massive amount of daily homework. Little explanation over topics expected to know without prior discussion. When he does answer a question is extremely condescending. On more than one occasion said "If you don't understand this then drop the class." Has knowledge of Spanish but doesn't wish to share it.

Marks is not a teacher I would recommend. All we do in class is read the book then do homework online which is not helpful at all. I hate going to class and he is a very tough grader. It has made me loathe Spanish this semester. He is nice but just not a good teacher.

I don't understand how Prof Marks is receiving good ratings. He is the most intimidating, condescending teacher ever. I had planned on getting my Spanish minor before this, but this class completely turned me around 180 degrees. He looks at the ceiling when he talks, doesn't answer questions, and extensive homework is due daily. Just dreadful.

Professor Marks was the best Spanish teacher I have had throughout high school and grad school. Very helpful. Very willing to answer questions. Very passionate about Spanish and well-versed. Easy to understand. Fair Grader. Wish I could take all my Spanish classes with him.

I personally liked his class! He uses the book a lot and you read about a bunch of different countries and cultures. His quizzes are over grammar, and I thought he did a good job at explaining grammar rules. He is a tough grader and his test are pretty hard. But an A is possible, it just depends on how much you want to work!

He's there to help you understand the material, but your final grade depends on how hard you work. Definitely cannot skip this class, missing one day can be crucial.

I told him at the begin of the semester that I was not good at Spanish and he was very encouraging. But later in the class he became condescending when I answered questions wrongly. I put more work into that class than I had in any other Spanish class before his and I got a C. He is REALLY tough grader and takes off big points for small mistakes.

Marks is a good, knowledgeable prof. He let me off the hook once with a late paper when I screwed up and printed the wrong copy. Don't take this class if you struggle with Spanish, though--he's a little condescending when you ask questions and makes you feel like an idiot. But if you know your stuff, you'll get an A in here. It's grammar review.

he's a very interesting and capable teacher, but can at times be intimidating. if you don't show willingness to learn or improve you won't get anywhere. if you have a true interest, he's a wonderful teacher. take the class into your own hands.. talk, attend class, and know your stuff. tough grader but a great teacher. good accent, and a cutie too

Marks is a great professor. He is not the easiest, but he is very straightforward with his grading and tests. You definitely know what to expect and how you are going to do. I had him for the entire 200 series and will continue to have him as a prof for as long as I can! He is knowledgeable, funny and an all around cool guy.

While Jeff Marks clearly has a love for Spanish, I had a difficult time learning from him. Nobody asks questions in class because he is intimidating. The way he grades and comments on assignments and papers is somewhat degrading. His tests are extremely hard even after staying up until 5am studying I found myself failing. I wouldn't recommend him.

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, and I learned more in 10 weeks with Marks than I did in the past 4 years. The Wiley Plus (on-line assignments) is annoying at times, but I do not mind going to class. He explains everything really well, and although he is a tough grader at times, you will still learn a lot and do good if you actually try.

Spanish sucks and there is no reason to make us take high levels of foreign language. this prof made it bearable.
