Comment:

Dr. Burrow is absolutely amazing! I have no idea how he only has a 3.5 on here when he is a solid 5. I took him for The Death Penalty which is writing intensive and I felt like the papers were incredibly fair and not too over the top- not to mention, he is an amazingly fair grader! I'm taking his hate crimes class next semester and I cannot wait!

Comment:

in my personal opinion this class was not hard at all. If you pay attention during lecture and actually take notes the papers are easy. No research required. Study guides very specific. The only negative is that speaking is mandatory but what do you expect in a discussion? You get out what you put in. No more, No less.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE SOCIAL ANXIETY. You must talk to earn your participation points. I thought I did good on the tests but I did not lol. The papers are easy. He was not clear on how we gained these participation points and I ended up missing a lot. He also interrupts students after calling on them and exerts his opinion on everyone.

you talk about the same topics every single class and always focus on the same arguments. He grades participation super heavy and literally marks every time you speak but when you do talk he will interrupt you every single time. class drags on and his tests are unnecessarily difficult even when it feels like you don't cover much material in class

Dr. Burrow is amazing. Easily can make the grade you want if you put in the effort and talk in class but this not an easy A class. Participation is extremely important. No textbook. He makes the material fun and interesting. Tests are challenging but if you pay attention and take good notes you will have nothing to worry about!

Exams are pretty tough but he gives you a study guide and the essay questions come from it word for word. 5 essays 4-5 pages each but it is a writing intensive CRJU credit. Final not cumulative. You HAVE to speak up in class, he marks your name and you get 5ish/75 participation pts total each time you do and it counts for a good 10% of your grade

Very intelligent, doesn't grade with bias, respects everyones opinions, great in class discussions. His test are hard but if you study and pay attention in class you will be fine. If you talk in class you should pass. I bombed on his test but if you do his writing assignments and participate you can do well. The guy is kinda nutty but hilarious.

Dr. Burrow is a great professor, one of the few classes i got to take where critical thinking was placed at the utmost importance, as opposed to wrote memorization. He is engaging and intellectual. Expect to be challenged, dont come to class without an opinion, or hoping to just go on facebook for 50 minutes. Never show people disrespect in class.

Dr. Burrow's class was definitely tough, but he knows what he is talking about. Participation can make or break your grade, but he encourages discussion that everyone can get involved in. You have to work for your grade, but it's not impossible to get an A. Tests are reasonable if you study. No textbook, just readings posted to blackboard

Dr. Burrow is an incredible teacher. He teaches upper level university classes, and expects his students to be able to handle such. He is one of the smartest professor's I've encountered, and will challenge you to think/learn. Attendance isn't mandatory but you need to go & take good notes. Study the review sheet for exams. Would take him again!

3 Points away from passing class with a C. Now I have to take another semester to get one class to graduate. Professor doesn't give any extra credit, requires you to talk during class (or else you'll fail), and requires only hard copies of papers (better hope you don't get sick. Ever) Horrible professor. If you have the option don't take him.

Expect to work if you want to pass. He posts his slides online, but they don't give you everything you need in order to pass the tests. Participation is required. Tests are 60% multiple choice and 40% short answer. Definitely not my favorite professor at USC.

Dr. Burrow is a very knowledgable professor. I learned a lot from his lectures and thoroughly enjoyed the Race and Hate Crimes class. However, do not take this class unless you like challenges. This class consists of seven essays and three exams- 60% multiple choice and 40% written. Additionally, participation is a must and requires you to talk.

He is a highly informed professor. The class is not easy because the content is not easy. But! He was very clear with his expectations and even gives study guides with the EXACT test questions. No book. Participation is MANDATORY, your grade will go down if you don't talk. Overall it was a good class, very informative. It's challenging material.

Dr. Burrow shows interest in the material (Race and Crime). His students must show similar interest and participate in order to do well. Dialogues must be informed. He can be rude if you voice your opinion with malice or ignorance. I am doing well in the class because I participate and turn papers in on time. MUST regurgitate info on exams to pass.

He is the worst professor I have ever had. He comes off as mean, rude, arrogant, and narcissistic-- which I believe he is! He carries himself as if he holds a grudge against someone. It is a very difficult class! Do not take if you are trying to get an easy A.

Dr. Burrow is awesome, one of the best professors I've had so far. He always offers both sides of every argument and is always questioning your reasoning on an opinion which is different than a lot of professors. His tests are difficult but are passable. Don't take him if you can't handle his argumentative teaching style, would take him again

Burrow is very different from what i am use too. His teaching style is tottaly different and that makes his class super hard. His lecture is based off of textbook notes which is really hard as well. The exams are hard and uses big words that i am not familiar with which makes the test frustrating. If you like big words & studying this is for you.

He really knows what he is talking about. He loves the material he teaches and I love that he plays devils advocate in class so you don't know what side he is on but still gets you to think. I would definitely take him again.

Loved Burrow, one of my favorite professors. very, very knowledgeable if you love discussion this is the class for you. and if you do not talk, understand, class participation weighs heavily in his class. the test are challenging but if you pay attention and stay engaged studying for the test will be loads easier. Highly recommend.
