To do well in the class you really need to memorize the info he gives you. Homework is not for any grade, two exams which is mainly the entire grade. If you have an "A" or "B" you may skip the final.

All you have to do is write everything down and memorize it. There wasn't a whole lot of information in this course, nor was it complicated. I just had to go through my notes once or twice and memorize them to get an A. You NEED to go to every class if this is your first engineering related course, though.

The notes are golden. Remember the formulas given to you because those will be on the quizzes and tests. If you don't attend class you could miss a 'pop quiz' but the lectures are online if you really can't make it. Very few grades put in so study extra hard. Devoted roughly 5-6 hours to study for each quiz/test the day before.

YOU MUST STUDY!!!! This class is so killer that 65-85% is a B, and 85-100% is an A. I am dying for a B right now with 65%. The first two quizzes messed me up because I did not study. But study people and your grade will be an A easy as pie. Raising your grade and lowering it is near impossible. Pick your poison

Clear and concise, answers questions in lecture, and is happy to talk 1-on-1 during office hours. Kallend knows the material he teaches, so never has to take time to consult his notes, which is great considering how much material he goes through in each lecture. Get good at listening WHILE taking notes, do your hw, and memorize the the formulas. A.

Funny guy. He is a good teacher but his tests are killer. He never has any time to answer too many questions because there is so much material to cover in each lecture. do the homework, thats your only source of practice since he never does problems in class.

He is an excellent professor, but his grading system is hell. Little or no partial credit given if answer is wrong. If you go to his office hours, he usually won't give you much advice at all. Once again, great class, but you MUST study old exams. that's the way you can survive throughout this course.

Very important to go to lecture. There are TONS of old tests floating around, use those to practice on. If you can do the hw and the old tests, you'll ace the hell out of this class. Kallend is a very good lecturer.

He is a great teacher. I had him for MS 201 and his explanations are crystal clear. I had a blast with him. You can get a 100 in his exams as long as you do the homework and you study the notes very carefully. If you have an A after the midterms, you dont take the final exam and thats very nice.

Amazing teacher. Fun, entertaining, makes intro to profession a breeze. So long as you do what you're told and don't procrastinate the final project, you pass, and you can even pass without one or two things. At all costs, take Kallend for this course.

Best Professor at IIT; Attend lectures, solve homework and you have a good chance of getting an A. Does put tricky questions on the exam/quizzes but if you pay attention to lectures then they are not that tricky ;-) Handles the class very well and lectures are interesting.

Best professor at IIT. He was so good at teaching Materials Science 201 that I was thinking about changing my major to Materials engineering. His lectures are interesting and you actually learn. His tests are hard but if you pay attention in class and do the homework, you'll be okay.

Don't get me wrong Prof Kallend is a good guy, funny too, but he skims over the equations and does not really do examples on the board; which are practically the things he tests you on. He expects you to figure it out, which may work for some but may not for others. Other than that class is fairly informative.
