I was fortunate enough to take several classes with him. Brilliant labels Dr Ransom, but doesn't capture his passion or tangential ability to smash home points or deconstruct arguments. His classes will keep you engaged and reeling.

Comment:

This man is easily the smartest person I know. If you know him, he is the smartest person you know, too. If he seems dis-jointed then you might not be ready for the class. Don't take it personal. I hear that it happens a lot. Seriously, Ransom has one of the great minds in the field, so even if you only get half, you gain.

He rambles on and on and often repeats long sections of his lectures. Taking notes for the class is VERY hard because of how disorganized and almost random the path of his tangents, which also impedes studying for his exams which are no piece of cake. LOTS of reading.

Comment:

Prof. Ransom is the reason I am a Political Science Major. So what if he rambles a bit. he is brillant. he makes you work for your grade and gives great feedback on papers. in fact, a 5 page paper is often accompanied by 2 pages of comments and suggestions. I highly recommend Prof. Ransom. Not to mention, he has a great personality.

He is completely absurd. Rambles constantly. Gives the same "lectures" weeks in a row. Does not even consider other viewpoints without bothering to try and refute them. Rudely tells students they are wrong without actually giving any evidence that they are.

I loved professor Ransom! I wish I could go back and take more classes with him. He's the best, hard but fair. So interesting. Great professor, easy to talk to, a bit disorganized but in an endearing absent minded professor way. Once I discovered him I took all his classes that would fit!

Ransom is insane. Insanely intelligent. I didn't appreciate this class until I was done. He's the funniest, liveliest teacher in the department with indefatigable energy. He just wants you to participate and develop thinking skills.
