Comment:
Roden is rad. He has lecture notes that go along with his slides with portions of them to be done at home. The only homework is to fill in the at home notes along to his audio lectures which only takes about 10-15 minutes per lecture. His tests are pretty heavy but the notes prepare you. Overall a super great dude that helps out his students a ton.

Dr. Roden was my degree advisor and I also took 4 of his classes. This man has an awesome sense of humor and is very patient with students. He really knows how to communicate tough subjects. He will present you with different information than a google search and has the research to back it up. I feel lucky to have had him as my advisor and prof.

Dr. Roden is by far my favorite professor at SOU. He holds you to such a high standard, and really pushes you to do your best. He can literally answer any question you have, especially if it is about plants. You have to really be on top of your game and study a lot, but he curves the tests which is helpful.

Dr. Roden is one of my favorite professors. I had him for 211's lecture and 212/213's labs. My lab partner and I emailed and bothered him during his office hours CONSISTENTLY with questions about assignments each week, but Roden replied to every single one of them, even on the weekends. He is very helpful and also remembers all of his students.

Comment:
I was assigned this class by an academic advisor so I didnt look him up before hand, BIG mistake. This is by far the hardest and most POORLY layed out class Ive never taken in my 3 1/2 years of college. The stuff he teaches is NOT on the exams he gives. His lectures are meaningless and hes EXTREMELY rude if you email him with any questions.

Dr. Roden is a great professor and person, his class was one of the hardest I took while at southern Oregon. He lectures very well, and knows every student in his 200+ classes. He grades extremely fair, and his tests are very difficult. The wording is hard and the questions are in depth. However, very personable, and respects his students.

Roden is a really good professor. The lower division bio classes are not his forte. He comes off as a dry lecturer when speaking to a large group of 120+ students. When he's able to work with smaller groups of students, he is incredibly knowledgeable and great at explaining concepts. I'd love to take an UD bio class with him, but I hate plants.

He's an amazing professor, and he specializes in botany, so if you like plants he's your man.

Comment:
Very traditional professor. He has high expectations of college students. He WILL NOT hold your hand . His teaching is direct, and he tells you exactly what he expects you to know for the tests(which is everything). He challenged me and covered a substantial amount of material. You have to put in the time and effort to excel in this class.

LECTURE - this class is interesting, but I felt like things that were emphasized in lecture were ignored in the test, and some of the test material was barely touched on in class. He is very open to in class questions, but his office hours were very limited.

Comment:
His goal is to make the entire class agree with his ideals by the end of term. He is a very dull lecturer and blatantly tries to push his beliefs on the class. Information is skewed to prove his point. If you disagree with him, you can't get an A.

So very boring! I was really into biology and science when I started the term and after taking bio from him for one term I changed back to my original major (I'd just returned to school after a 4-5 year break). I'd avoid his classes if you're at all able.

The best professor at SOU! He maybe be ridged but he is a scientist through and through. He really understands the concepts of learning and is not overly detail orientented. He is funny, passionate and sickly smart! He is a wonderful man and professor. Great classes!
