Comment:
The class covers 14 modern econ topics (think climate change, income inequality, taxes). First, the professor covers them all, then students dive deeper into each category. This makes for a lot of talking for which you must be present, but the graded assignments aren't too hard. Dr. Hill's presentations are pretty well researched.

Comment:
Kent is one of the worst professors I encountered. He lacks knowledge on most of the subjects covered in class and does a more half-assed presentation than the students do. Kent refuses to partake in philosophical discussions about decision making. Kent clearly does not enjoy teaching and is immature in his interactions with students.

Refuses to assist with homework. Won't even answer theoretical questions regarding homework. Extremely tough grader. He scales, which helps a bit, but if he gave more partial credit he wouldn't need to scale. Lectures about the same tables for multiple class periods. Doesn't really use the book, but it can be helpful side reading.

GPA Buster. Lectures for 1:15 minutes straight on a microphone. No class interaction and no study guides although he will give you some pratice sheets for the math problems on test. Be prepared to read the chapters, take notes and goto his office for help. I barely got an C. He give a 10 to 20% curve. Several (69%)D's and a few F's.

His lectures are well-prepared, but his asides often obfuscate the point he is testing you on. Also, after the lecture, he would rather chat with people who also like economics rather than answer questions about the lecture from students who are patiently waiting. Tests are fair, but will require you to use your knowledge to figure them out.

I recommend going to class everyday.Do not believe that you can read the book and finish the exam with a good grade because the exam only covers 20% from the book. The rest comes from his own lecture. He is the most passionate professor that I have ever seen.He is very knowledgeable and helpful,so go ask him your questions.Luckily,he curves the exam.

dr. hill is awesome! i came in with no econ experience but everything was extremely fair. tests are curved in a way so there's not much risk of below a B-, and an A+ is definitely doable. book and lectures go hand in hand, so not attending class is alright (as long as it's not too often). homework is very minimal

Dr. Hill is great. The class is not as hard as McDowell's ECN 214 class, but it still does challenge you to understand the material and not just memorize. He curves everything so almost everyone gets at least a C on everythihng. I would definitely take another class with him, and I'm glad I took the honors section.

Kent is an excellent professor. He keeps lectures interesting but manages to cover many topics in a very clear and understandable way. You will not need to use the text if you take notes well.

This class wasn't as difficult as ECN214. Dr. Hill is extremely articulate, and his lectures are easy to understand. He is always very well prepared. He is also extremely helpful in office hours. I sometimes struggle to understand econ lectures, and he was very helpful. Overall, this was a great class. Not calc heavy.

This class is pretty easy especially compared to ECN214 (with McDowell) - the pace is a lot slower and the applications are less complex. The tests are somewhat unpredictable and the study guide doesn't always mention all the areas you need to cover; but, the homework is easy. The final is not cumulative and grading is clear - 3 tests 5 homeworks.

Great Teacher. Really knows what he is talking about. Class is rather boring but definitely required. He curved all our exams and dropped the lowest of the four. No homework so you really need to study for the exams. It helps a lot if you read the chapters.

I'd like to preface my comments by saying that he is a nice, funny, charming man and has accomplished a great deal during his Economics career. The class, though, is tough, and it's easy to get in over your head. The tests are very difficult, and even studying for them is overwhelming. Recommended for whiz kids but not the faint of heart.

Hill, not the best lecture class in the world but he is VERY knowledgable about what he's teaching and has a genuine interest in it as well. His tests are some what hard but usually puts a huge curve on them because of it (ex- 78% w/out curve 90% w/). Class not really nec. do ?s and read the book. Your life might be easier.

Wow, I don't think he's as hard as everyone makes him out to be. Four tests, get to drop one and can be the final. Lectures are boring and long but the book was really helpful. HATES people who leave early. I did some of the practice problems, read the book, and usually went to class and am doing great.

His tests are VERY VERY VERY hard. I read the book before every class and still have a hard time following his lectures. he doesn't use powerpoint, he uses like two overheads with like 3 words written in blue ink. If you';re stuck with him don't freak out, but if you can switch please do. i heard boyes is good...

Going into econ. I didnt think I would like it bc I am not good with numbers but Dr. Hill makes it very relative and interesting! He give lots of examples to help you understand and cracks jokes during class to lighten the material. I would definitly reccomend Kent Hill!!!
