He has to be one of the best teachers I've ever had! He makes literature fun. He does semi-demand feedback during class. The exams were almost always take home unless he isn't getting feedback in class then it will be in class exam. You can't read the book and call it a day. He actually teaches about the different literary periods not in the book.

TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! Dr. Baker's discussions are crystal clear! As long as you take notes on the in class discussions the exams are a breeze. When I had his class he gave a lot of take home exams, but there was always a chance that they would be in class! Definitely a great professor!

In response to the person who said that Baker is misogynistic, this is simply not true. I am a female and a feminist and I got an A+ in his class. His courses depend largely on your own writing abilities and willingness to revise. If you work extremely hard, you will succeed in his courses.

Learned absolutely nothing the entire semester. Doesn't teach, just makes you write essays and reteaches information you learned in high school.

Baker isn't bad and he is passionate about literature. He will answer any question you have to the best of his ability. All of our exams ended up being take home. Take good notes and you will do fine. Pop quizzes never counted for us, just for "fun" I guess. Just 4 exams. Grading is weird, but I would recommend him.

His exams are very difficult! He has no real method to grading except how he feels about you. Pop quizzes are too specific. Gives you 50 minutes to fill a blue book! Unfair grader! AVOID!

he gives take home essay exams if the class is discussion filled and about 10% of the class gets all the questions right on his little pop quiz. come to class and he tells you everything you need to know to write a good essay. this was the first English class I've ever enjoyed

Take his class if you want to learn something! I had no interest in it and the syllabus looked really boring at first, but he totally changed the way I think about literature. This guy will force you to think, for sure.

I received a high "A" grade from Baker--AND I am a female. I did not get the impression that he is a mysognist at all. I thoroughly enjoyed his class (Western World Lit.)

His Lit class is awful! He is very structured and organized, however... his exams are very difficult. He will give you one essay question in which he asks for examples for 8 or 9 different stories at once. It's no joke. Be prepared to READ for this class!

Only prof I've ever graded poor in teacher evaluations. Huge ego, annoying, he lectured about how spell check isn't perfect for 20 min one day. When you ask him a question, he goes on a tangent about something you already know. Doesn't even make comments on work you hand in. My 7th grade English teacher taught me to write better than he did.

I don't know what these people are talking about Baker being hard. He is quite the opposite. He lets you use your book on the essay exams! How much easier can it get? I barely went to class, never read, read spark notes on the subjects and came out with a B! anddd i heard Sharp used youtube videos for an english class and that the class sucked.

he is a very smart professor, but has a mentality that nobody is capable of passing his tests. I got a C and studied and memorized quotes and everything. Average score on exams is 17/25! Take Sharp!

His lit class is extremely difficult. He wonders why the day after the withdraw only 1 third of the class stayed. Five blue book exams, and he expects you to support your claims with six or seven memorized quotes...

I had him for 101, and 200. and i'm female, and i got A's both times. no idea what you're talking about, he doesn't give A's to female. he's the kind of teacher that kicks your butt, and then you get an A and love him for it. still the best english teacher i've ever had.

This man refuses to give any female an A. He is a misogynist. He belittles his students. When you do manage to get advice from him, it's decent. However, no changes you make are ever quite good enough. I've made A's in all of my upper level English courses. He gave me an 89.99.

A great professor, indeed. Was honestly looking out for his students' interests when it came to the quality of their research essay. This class is demanding but it is well worth it (not sure if they're continuing it). Assigns readings - only for the benefit of the students. He may come off as intimidating the first time, but he's really a nice man.

I read about 3/4 of the assigned material, attended about the same proportion of lectures, and received an "A." Baker often gives the essay question ahead of time, making test preparation quite easy.
