Math 22 is a hard class. You cant blame borisov for that. I guerentee that you will learn more from him than anyon else. He is an incredable teacher!

Comment:

Very funny and very fascinating to listen to. Ridiculously intelligent in the math field. Did insane calculations in his head. Only resorted to his laptop to write down the example problems he was going to do. Very hard class but doable. Except the series part which was just hell. Do a lot of the past exams to study and you'll be fine.

Comment:

Class was hard, but not rediculously hard. I got a 26 on the first midterm (ave. was 29) and i got a 46 on the second test (ave was 79). and i got these without studying. so i studied for the final and pulled off a C in the class. so its not terribly difficult. Overall, Lev is a pretty good teacher

Just received my letter grade. A C. I did above average on everything except the first midterm by 2 points and the Final I tanked and I got a C. Yes he curves, but it's a brutal curve. I think roughly 60% of the class has a BC or lower according to my TA. That's ridiculous. . .

Comment:

Great teacher, really hard class. He made lecture as interesting as math can be, and he has a nice accent (it takes some getting used to though). Lev will challenge his students. He likes to use exam problems most people won't solve, but he is very helpful. Take advantage of office hours!!

GREAT professor. Moves fast, but stops for any single question. Knows the material. Lecture attendance is a MUST, but he has humorous tendencies and his speed makes paying attention easy. Hard tests, but if you read and go to lecture you'll do fine. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Crystal clear descriptions, but admittedly moves fast in lectures but will stop at any moment to answer a question. READ the chapter before hand so that you can follow him. I absolutely hate this class. I have always been good at math, I got a 5 on the AP calc exam, but this class is horrible. I got a 22% on the first midterm (class average was like a 31%), and then on the second midterm I got a 42% (class average was a 79%). I feel like I understand the material in the book, he just makes tests so hard and crazy.

Got a 46% on the first midterm (~30% was the average). But to rebound, the second midterm was far easier (~79% average). Knowing how hard I could expect tests to be, I feaked out and studied nonstop for 3 days straight and pulled a 99% on the second test. This class IS doable! Weekly quizzes are very helpful. Do NOT underestimate this class!!

Very, very, very hard professor. His main occupation is Algebraic Geometry and research in that area. He is a very analytical professor, and yet he does a good job of protraying information in a way that we can understand. Like the other posts, first midterm averaged a 29%, but the second was like a 78% so he scaled it knowing we did bad. . .

Overall an okay professor. I don't think he realizes how much the students actually understand the material, exams are hard. First exam average was a 33%. He has a pretty generous curve, doing about average will get you a BC, maybe B.

Borisov is so far the best math teacher I have had. He is very clear and quickly gets to the point. Tests were on the tough side, but fair. Study hard and you can learn a lot from him!

I thought Borisov was a great professor. He is very thorough in lecture and answers any homework questions in class. Some may think he goes quickly but he will stop to answer questions and/or re-explain if there is confusion. And on top of that, he is very entertaining during lecture. Do the homework and you wont have a problem.

Borisov is an excellent lecturer. He explains things very well and does lots of examples. He also does a HW problem from the previous days assignment at the start of each lecture. Tests are fair and curved. He always has one tough question that only a handful of people answer correctly. Easy B or C

Borisov did an excellent job teaching the material clearly. His exams weren't as hard as they have been in the past but you must be carful to stay on top of the material. Grade is only determined by three exams and a discussion grade so don't mess up on any of the exams.

Comment:

Lev is a great professor, one of the better math teachers at the UW. He is easygoing and lectures are easy to follow. He does a great job of explaining the material and is open to questions from students. The material is difficult as well as the exams. If you do the homework and attend lecture, you should be fine.
