Comment:
This class was incredibly hard to study for and was very disorganized. At times it felt as though our grades were determined by rolling dice. Calculations are graded based on how they are done and not on correct answers. Qualitative descriptions are extremely nitpicked. It is also very hard to get a response through email.

I'm conflicted. He's a nice person, but falls into the category of "professors who know their stuff so well that they can't teach well." His exams usually consist of only 6 questions, so missing one hurts pretty bad. Sometimes his grading felt fair, but often it was ridiculously harsh. Never before have I felt so out of control of my grades.

He is more interested in his research than teaching a class. His lectures are very scattered and he makes many many mistakes while doing work on the problems. He does not look at the big picture but rather lingers on the small stuff. His tests are difficult. He grades like a robot. Wait to take with another professor if possible.

Chiarelli and CHEM 212 are way overhyped as terrible. The class was really not that difficult. Every question on the exam was either covered on the homework, textbook problems, in lecture, or in discussion. Although Chiarelli can come across as not very friendly at first, he really is a nice guy. Overall a solid class with very clear expectations.

Be careful of this man. He lies. I had him for my graduate research advisor and he published part of my dissertation without giving me credit for my work. Then he has done everything he can to give me bad reviews with potential jobs. Stay away from the unchristian man. Out of 20 of his graduate students, only 3 finished the program under him.

Dr. Chiarelli is great. He isn't a particularly hard professor and he cares about his students. He is always available to meet with you as needed. A huge recommendation is to print off, read, and take notes on the note packets that he gives you. He pulls questions directly from his packets. If you use all of his resources you can easily pass.

Yeah avoid this guy, better to hold off a semester than take this course with him. Graded homework is absolutelty nothing like the exams so in no way prepares you. Expects all problems in the book to be done with absolutely no credit given, he does test on them too so not doing them is not an option. If I'm doing work it should count.

Sometimes he is not clear about what he is saying and does make some mistakes on the board; however, his tests are fair and he does give partial credit. Definitely read the book and do problems in it; it really helps! As long as you do that you should be fine when taking his tests. 5 exams (he drops lowest), a final, online hw, and discussion.

One of the worst professors I have had in all for years. He mumbles when he speaks, he seems not interested at all, and not approachable whatsoever. TAKE THIS COURSE FROM A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! It is definitely not as hard of a course as organic but you do have to study. If he was the only professor it might as well be an online course.

This guy has no idea what he's doing. I personally have had to correct him at least 6x so far this semester while he's writing problems on the board.... Just me lol I'm not the only one who has corrected him. Tons of great professors here but this dude isn't one of them. Avoid.

This class seems impossible to pass. If you want to save your GPA, DO NOT take with this professor. When asked what can I do to help raise my grade in the class, his response was take the class another semester that the tests are just going to get harder. Mistakes are made during lectures and just confuse you in the end.

Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Basically half the class is failing and this seems completely fine with him, no curve. He makes numerous mistakes while working problems out that students end up correcting him on. Do not take this class with him.

If you have any other option, I would strongly recommend a different professor. He does not care about low class averages, and will make you feel like an idiot if you go ask him a question about the material. I studied way too much to wind up barely passing with a C.

He always makes mistakes when in class showing a problem, he will do a problem for a good 10 minutes, then say its wrong, then go do it a different way. Extremely confusing is an understatement.

Read the text, do the problems, come to every lecture, understand his notes like the back of your hand... and you might just do OK. His exams are really hit or miss. He constantly makes mistakes on the board, skips steps while working out problems, and moves pretty fast. 101 he is a nice man, will work out problems on the board for u, but I'd avoid
