Absolutely the worst professor at WSU. The only reason he has a job there is because he can teach a language that came out in the 60's. I strongly suggest anyone who wants to get an IT education to avoid WSU because as long as this guy is around he will ruin it and give you a low grade based on impossible exams and assignments.

Only has a Job because he teaches COBOL 1 and Advanced Cobol. Worst major by far I would just go to a different school if you want to get a degree in IT. He teaches a language where it came out in the 60's. He is also the worst teacher I've ever had and also is the head of the department which is why he still has a job. Moral of the story dont come

COBOL. few projects. hard midterm / finals. Lectures are boring and cobol being overly complicated only makes it worse. my book is over twice as old as me. so many papers

Worst professor I've ever had at Westfield State. Extremely unclear about what is due and when it is due. Teaching a programming language that was made in the 1950's. He's as boring as can of corn. Would rather slam my testicles in a door than take another class with him.

Played CS:GO during most of classes... Through COBOL and out of date concepts of Database Management.. Nothing I learned from this professor have I ever need to use in my current job as a Software Developer/Database administrator.

Awful professor. I try to at least give a positive when I write a review, but with Carabetta, there are none. He's rude, condescending to students, gets irritated with questions, and isn't available if you need help. I tagged "so many papers" because he basically gives you a 20 page packet of his illegible notes each class

He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He talks down to students and his teaching methods are straight out of the 80's. WPI does not offer cobol so why does Westfield state? Oh wait it's because he will not let them change the curriculum.

I had Carabetta for COBOL I, and he is literally the reason why I'm transferring from Westfield. He is H.O.D. again, meaning Westfield's CAIS program is stuck in the 80's. He talks at you, asks questions, then answers them himself, he has strange hours for class, limited office hours--Don't go to Westfield if you want a quality CS/CIS education.

-Lectures are long and boring, and early in the morning -Must compile code using some machine from the 90's you telnet into, must be ON CAMPUS to pick up print-outs of your compilations/code -He isn't in his office much -COBOL is very difficult to understand, is out of date, and he's the reason you have to learn it for TWO semesters.

Any course you take will feel the same with this professor. He is not engaging, nor shows any concern for students success. Any time you ask for help of any kind he talks down upon you and rushes u away. Condescending and super egotistic. p.s WSU CIS department sucks I feel cheated out of an education! serious improvements are needed!!

Regardless of ones IT/IS major, this man will have to be dealt with. He is the dept. chair and maintains an antiquated curriculum circa ~1985. Courses he teaches are inconsistent, non-comprehensive, and do not promote interest in subject matter. This man and his curriculum will destroy your education. Heed this warning, or find out for yourself.

He has based his career at this point on keeping COBOL alive and promoting end user low end, poor quality, blind-faith computer based courses. This man is the reason the CIS degree at WSC is worthless in respect to gaining any real useful knowledge.

Department chair. Very little real world knowledge at this point; all theory.Started teaching at WSC in the mid 1980's: no one is sure if he has any experience out side of academia. Promotes the severely outdated COBOL lang. Is not flexible in respect to current IT trends or logic. Lectures are extremely drawn out and boring. This guy fails.

He's a good, likeable guy, but COBOL is retarded. It's outdated, and for all intensive pruposes, obsolete. Yea, it's still used, but not to the point where it should be a requirement in the CIS major. The only reason it's a requirement is because Carabetta happens to be the CAIS dept. chair, and therefore he gets to more or less set the Major requirements. He built his whole career around knowing COBOL, so that's why he wants it in the major. It's an easy couple of coures, but a waste of time and BORING!
