Comment:

Dr. Huss is very passionate about botany, but lectures can be dull at times. He can be hard to reach as well. He does not put in grades regularly. Our grades were not posted where we could see them, so we had no idea what our grade was until the semester was over and final grades were posted. The class is not hard, but stay on top of the material.

Doesnt update grades frequently. So your grade in the class is uncertain. The study guides given by students do not reflect actual test material. Study the practice exam and read the book. He gets off topic a lot in lecture, so you would be better off just reading the book and studying the power points.

Comment:

Huss is a good guy, but terrible in lecture. He never stays on topic long enough to teach what is gonna be on his tests. Do not take him if you do not have to. His class is pretty easy but, his lecture time makes a better nap time than anything else. I slept in most of his lectures, not on purpose but bc I couldn't stay awake with him speaking.

Really nice guy, but the lectures leave a lot to be desired. Didn't feel like I was learning what was needed for exams, and the exams are not easy by a long stretch. A lot of extra credit, though I'm not sure how much I really learned.

Comment:

Dr. Huss's tests are very difficult, and his lectures are so boring! However, he allows many bonus point opportunities that I highly recommend everyone to take advantage of. The bonus assignments usually just include watching a documentary and writing a paper. It is easy to do well if you study his power points and do all the bonus work.

This class is only hard because he wastes so much time off topic talking about random things other than teaching us. I had a lab along with my class and I was failing my labs because we werent learning anything in class. We were always modules behind.

Took him for Evolution, as a biology elective. Super nice, talkative with students, but a monotone lecturer and super slow in getting things graded. We didn't keep to much of a schedule. But all the exams were written take homes with plenty of time to complete, and his power points were very informative.

a great teacher but makes it hard for you. if you dont read the chapter and go to his study sessions before tests its hard to pass. you can tell he loves his job he'll make a couple jokes. DO NOT STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE MADE BY STUDENTS!! only like 4 of the questions are actually on it. DO THE PRACTICE TEST. you really really have to study.

He's a pretty good teacher. Tries to make class interesting for the students which is nice if you like cheesy puns. The subject matter is a bit dry, and the fact that he is somewhat mono-toned and turns the lights off during lecture makes it difficult to stay awake in class at times. Tests are long, but loaded with silly freeby questions. thumbs up

He is knowledgeable and well informed about the subject matter. He is good about keeping his office hours and about responding to my questions during class or by email. Dr. Huss is a good teacher! I recommend him to all my friends.

Took Med. Mycology with Dr. Huss in Fall of 2012--lectures were fairly interesting, the one exam wasn't too bad (mostly definitions and short answer essays). Labs weren't too bad, though I would've liked to have learned more about culturing different fungi than we did.

Dr. Huss was a great instructor. His lectures can be dry at times, but usually he was interesting to listen to in class. He was always available during his office hours to discuss course material when I stopped by to meet with him about the class. He knows his stuff regarding the subject matter. He was a tough teacher, but also fair.

I loved Dr. Huss. He is very friendly and a great teacher. If you show up to class and he sees you really try he will help you out on your grade. I am an A student and I did receive a B in his class, but was very happy for a B. He is tough, but very fair!
