I took her Psychology of Women class and Dr. Poran is an absolute gem of a professor. Even during these unprecedented times, she has given her best effort to still create an engaging class. Her genuine enthusiasm for the subjects and care for her students truly made the class even better. Would absolutely recommend her for anyone.

!!!! my favorite person ever <3 took her for a w 9:00-12:30. she kept us for the full 3.5hrs, but we never minded! weekly readings and discussions. the class sat in a circle. what a kind group which was vital for a gender/sexuality studies class! there were 3 papers which piggy backed off of one another. shes a 20/10 human being.

Comment:

Took Poran for Psych of Women and loved the class. There were quizzes on every new chapter BEFORE we reviewed it and one group project/presentation; that's IT. Participation is major and therefore so is attendance, only 3 excused absences. Lectures are interesting in this class, so if you show up and participate you're golden.

I took 4 or 5 classes with Maya. At first, I wasnt so sure about her or her classes because they were difficult. Now, I can honestly say that I learned more from her and her classes than I would have ever expected. A year and half after my last class with her and i still reflect on what I learned every day. Take her classes, they teach about life.

One of the best classes I've ever taken!! Absolutely loved being in her class. Every class is basically on big discussion and it was always interesting and it really helped me speak up more. Lots of readings to do but they're incredibly interesting! She's so sweet and great to talk to and I hope to take another one of her classes in the future!

You really have to read cause there are quizzes based on each chapter of the textbook. Theres a paper too (have to do a presentation). You REALLY should do good on the paper as it makes up most of your grade. It can screw you over or not. I feel there should be things besides quizzes and the paper so people have a chance to boost their grade up.

If Maya graded your paper harshly it's probably because it was probably bad. Just saying. She has high standards because that's what academia is. If you don't like putting in work you shouldn't be in college.

Comment:

Maya is a caring professor who wants her students to learn and feel comfortable. There are weekly readings, a few papers, a midterm, and final. Participation is very important, but she is very approachable so even as a shy student I felt comfortable doing so. I would recommend to someone who is willing to engage themselves with the course material.

Loved her class! Class is set up in a circle to have class discussions which helped a lot when discussing the material in class. Shes super positive and helpful when you need it. Gives great examples and discussions based on what we were learning that week. Shes super cool and relaxed i'd def take her again!

She is a fantastic woman. I have taken her more than once. Her classes are set up in a circle in order to promote discussions. She keeps the class extremely interested. Her tests are a little hard but she prepares you for them. Most writing assignments are creative and keep you interested rather than frustrated. Take her if you can.

Stay away from her! I would not recommend her to ANYONE. Her grading is so tough, I tried accommodating to her interests and opinions and it still did not work. Her feminist beliefs are so strong that she doesn't care about outside opinions. Do not take her!

Attendance and discussion participation is key. Text book revolves around sort stories, but you must read to be educated for discussion. Essays are easy and relate to/ applicable to real world. Loved this course and this professor who engaged her students to succeed!!

I thought maybe I was the only one who didn't like Maya's demeanor, or her condescending attitude,but during another class I overheard others speaking about just that. Its like she doesn't want you to succeed,very strange for being a "Psych" prof.. I recommend staying away from her classes if you are concerned about your GPA and college experience.

adolescent fieldwork ruined my GPA, gives the most sophisticated research paper 15 pages long, a presentation/ analyzes every word or sigh u say or do. you dont know how well your doing or till the last day of class. i was graduating but b/c of her i had to stay 1 more year. totally screwed up my plans. if u care about ur grade dnt take her @ all

Maya is absolutely amazing. Such a beautiful woman and I am so happy that I was able to take a class with her! Anybody who complains about her just doesn't care about the class enough to listen to her. She is a very fair grader. Essays are easy, midterm and final is also easy. If you listen in class you'll definitely get an A :)
