Comment:
Due to absences beyond my control, I got behind with homework assignments, etc. When I approached Hedengren, he was at once dismissive about my situation and announced that I "would fail the class". Of course, I decided then & there that I wasn't going to give him that satisfaction. Worked hard and passed the class. Imo, a terrible instructor.

seen a beautiful mind? told class he records conversations with other profs bc they "steal his ideas." Dude's in left field. any work you do will have little to no effect on your grade. he arbitrarily assigns letter grades to students based on attendance. if ur unlucky and take this class, just show up and make comments.

All work submitted through e-mail. If he doesn't get it, even if you have a saved copy proving you sent it, tough. The system is flawless, the students are wrong, is his theory. Despite e-mail, knows what he knows but isn't open to other ideas. Changes topic when questions are asked. Goes off topic to talk about submarines(amusing, yes. Phil, not).

Hedengren might be fine for lower division, but when you actually know what you're talking about, it's obvious that he doesn't. Ask a question about something he says and he'll give you an unintelligible response to distract from your objection. You will learn little and be sick of white swans. You'll get an A though.

Way spacy. A smart guy, but is very poor at explaining things. Gives TONS of reading. Not much work besides the reading though. Getting a decent grade isn't that hard, but I would definately wish I'd taken the class from someone else.

He's a nice guy but classes can be boring...only class I've EVER fallen asleep in. Lectures are redundant. Grades on attendance.

Was kind of spacey in class, but I thought he explained difficult concepts just fine. Showed a lot of patience with freshman who KNOW they know more about philosophy than a professor. :eyeroll:

Very full of himself. Rejected all critisisms of his ideas, even when they had merit. Very spacey in class. Tons of reading, and all of it that he wrote is full of grammar issues. Tests are relativly hard, and very specific.

Great guy, class is iffy. He is definitely more concerned with students and that we learn something than with grades, so that's good. His explanation of some more difficult phil is a little sketchy.

Professors who are passionate about their subject are usually good, and Hedengren is one of those. If you are already interested in philosophy, it should be easy to hold on to the A.

Hedengren really knows his stuff. He is very smart, but kinda phases out during class. Easy grade though, and interesting class.

He's a little spacey during class, and changes the way things work alot, but he grades very leniently and his class disscussions are always interesting.
