Comment:

She will call on you if there is not much participation. She is very clear with what will be covered in the semester. She is somewhat of a hard grader but not overly tough. She gives a decent amount of homework and does a lot of in class discussions. She likes to make her students talk to each other about an assignment.

Comment:

I had her for Critical Reading and Writing, so ofc it's reading heavy, but most of the readings are interesting. There is alot of graded work, and she encourages improvement from one to the next. You'll have to visit the writing center and do research. It was pretty good though.

If you are not a morning person, do not take this class. She makes you work for your grade so be ready for the number of assignments. She is a very harsh grader and unless if you have a GOOD reason for her to change your grade, don't bother.

For someone who claims to be so well put together, she never follows the syllabus and is very unclear with the instructions of her assignments. Tovey is never clarifies what she wants in her papers until it is too late. Probably one of the most unorganized classes I have ever taken and I would not recommend taking her for CRWT 101 or CRWT 102.

Should have dropped the class when I had the chance. She does not care if you have a life outside of class or if you have other classes. This professor will give you 2 essays a week including journals and essays. She does not go by the syllabus at all and is very confusing on due dates and where to submit your work. i do not recommend her at all.

Really tough prof. Doesn't understand that students have other classes, and her work load demands a lot. Very aggressive, and if she doesn't like you it reflects in your grades and in class. One positive thing about the class, is participation is very easy. Kind heart, not the best teacher.

Amazing! She is passionate about what she teaches and understands that some students struggle with writing and is always there to help. Her course is challenging; you really learn in her class! With all the papers, we go over drafts in class and she helps you along the way to understand what she wants from your paper. She changed my writing game!

Tovey is a great prof! She wants her students to succeed and she gives her students the opportunity to revise their work. Although her syllabus and Moodle were very unclear, I could still work around it. Just hand in and revise your papers and you will do well.

I did not work hard in this class whatsoever and got an A-. Ignore these reviews - If you just do the work and have an understanding of the reading, you will get an A. A lot of people got lazy and fell behind, hence the horrible reviews. The professor is a nice lady but her teaching is pretty average.

I thought I would enjoy her class, but I was wrong. She gives a lot of readings and things to write (essays, journals, etc) which is fine, except she never follows the syllabus and she's unclear with directions and due dates which makes it hard to follow assignments. If she doesn't like you, she'll target you and she rarely answers emails on time.

She is a nice woman to those who put in effort. She is passive aggressive to those who don't. For this class she assigns irrelevant work constantly. She also only gives you 1 day to write papers. She goes over the prompt in detail the day before the 3 page MLA paper is due. It is very frustrating for people who need time to develop their thoughts.

Professor Van Aulen is really a nice woman, you can tell she's very passionate about her job. She seems a little crazy though, she often paces and says "right" every other word. But she's very good at explaining things.

She's a helpful professor and if a student were to have any questions she is available. Assigns articles to critique and annotate which accounts for a lot of your grade. If you try to or do prove her wrong or question her authority, she tends to dislike you for the rest of the semester. Also assigns homework almost every class.

She is amazing! She genuinely cares about all of her students and is passionate about what she teaches. Although not easy, you really learn in her class! She gives some of the best feedback and is always there to help. With all the papers, we go over drafts in class and she helps you along the way to understand what she wants. Great Professor!
