Comment:

Goto is one of the best professors I've had so far at SCAD! He is so funny and he cares about all of his students. He shares so many stories about the field and will tell you everything you will need to know to become hooked on Seqa! His homework assignments are always fun and I enjoyed every class! Please take his class!

Comment:

A crazy "sensei" type professor with charming personality. He do not dwell on teaching and giving lectures, but it is the life stories that he tells during class that are precious and will probably make big impacts towards students who took his classes. Loves show off his collection of invaluable things he got from various artists for references.

Comment:

There are only a handful of professors that I can say really made an impact on me and Goto was definitely one of them. He's absolutely hilarious and has so many stories to tell. Plus he knows almost everyone in the industry. He is however a pretty tough grader and although he gives good feedback he doesn't allow resubmissions.

Comment:

One of the best professors I've had, no contest. His assignments go back and forth with time commitment, especially his storyboarding ones. Crazy knowledgable, funny, and makes you want to work and work well. Critiques can be a bit watered down but talk to him 1 on 1 and you'll get great feedback every step of the way.

Goto knows a tons of artists and everyday tells inspirational and hilarious stories. He's kind and understanding, if you're going through a tough path, he will be there for you. Goto is easily one of the most hilarious professors I've had at SCAD. His projects are fun and make you think outside the box, he has great knowledge of the industry in both sequential art and animation. He lacks a bit in giving constructive feedback, but if you ask for it, he'll tell you.

I've taken almost every professor in the SEQA major, and he's my favorite professor by far--and that's saying a lot, since I SEQA has some of the best professors. Both classes I've taken have been extremely engaging and fun and the homework is fun as well. I also felt like I was learning a lot and left class with a smile every day.

Goto can be pretty unclear with actual grading criteria (no specific rubrics), but if you're producing clear and readable action in your work and fulfilling the assignment, you're most likely set. Workload can fluctuate week-to-week, but like any other class, don't slack off and you're set. He usually gives plenty of time for project completion.

Goto's classes may be fun, but they're not helpful. He'll knock you down a grade for minor errors, giving only a letter grade. The critiques mentioned none of the things that would have actually helped me get an A on a project. He left for japan giving us make ups, he's unprepared for class, and just shows you artist he likes. Ugh

If you're an ANIM major, either choose a different professor for the SEQA class, or just take Troy for ANIM330 (Character Design and Layout) and get a substitution. I found that Goto's class was really more of a "Animation for SEQA students" class. I was bored and didn't feel like I learned much. Ended up taking Troy anyway to fill in the gaps.

I had Ray a few semesters ago - Spring 2003 - but he was excellent. He is a great artist and will get you to become better. He had people come in and speak about various drawing related stuff, and that was very helpfull. Highley Recomend.

Awesome teacher! Incredible artist, very experienced, has lots of advice to give. His assignments are fun and he's very understanding of people without drawing experience. The workload is not too bad at all.
