Great lecturer! His tests are all based off the lectures so take good notes and you will be fine. The papers are all based off the readings so do those as well. Too bad he might retire before next year so take him while you can!

Hands down, one of the best lecturers at Mason. The tests were all essay format, and that took up the entirety of the grade. As long as you paid attention to the lectures you were fine. Highly recommend!

This is a very chill 499 class. You have mandatory weekly meetings to discuss your progress on your thesis. Halfway through the semester you present your paper, and then fix the mistakes he critiqued. If you're a procrastinator, this is not the class for you. He doesn't breathe down your neck - he expects you to be responsible and get research done

Very knowledgeable but sometimes prone to nostalgic tangents about his experience pre-academia (interesting, but not always relevant). Very approachable and helpful, but attendance is highly recommended if you want to do well (exams cover lectures more than the assigned reading); also, read the books - interesting and on the exams!

I took Professor Wade for 389 and 499 and I loved his classes. I was nervous about taking these classes but I assure you by the end he will make you have an appreciation for Russian History. Hist 499 is amazing... pick a good topic and you will love it! By far one of the most intelligent professors I have had at Mason!

I took HIST 328 and HIST 329 with Dr. Wade and both of the classes were very enjoyable. His stories from his travels in Russia are quite interesting but his lectures do indeed get tedious sometimes. His grading structure is straightforward - 4 exams and 1 paper. Attendance isn't mandatory and reading the books are required but not necessary.

Overall an interesting class, but not fun at 9am. He knows what he's doing but he's a pretty hard grader, so I would avoid this class if you are not already a history major/minor

Dr. Wade is such an awesome professor. I didn't have a lot of interest in Russian History, but his class ended up being my favorite. He really knows his stuff and has a great sense of humor. As long as you show up to each class and take notes, you'll do great in this class. I would definitely recommend him :)

Very intelligent man who definitely knows Russian/Soviet History. He is really easygoing, kind and respectful towards his students and is always willing to help if you don't understand something. One flaw is that his lectures can be a little dry at times and there is lots of reading. However, if you pay attention you will learn a LOT and get an A.

I. Love. This. Man. Literally the coolest teacher ever. This was my second semester with him, and I WISH there was another class of his that I could take. He's so knowledgeble that it's almost painful, the lectures are interesting and often hilarious, and he absolutely loves what he does. If only every teacher were like this guy, for serious. Yes.

Nice guy. Class is one essay (8ish pages) on books you read for class (easy reads/relatively interesting) and 3 essay exams. You get somewhat of a study guide beforehand. If you pay attention and go to class the tests are pretty straight forward. Only downside is sometimes the lectures can get fairly tedious.

Dr. Wade is amazing. I have taken two different classes with him and he is always willing to explain and help. His lectures are always clearly outlined and organized and he is by far one of the foremost experts on revolutionary and communist Russia. Take him, you could not get a better or more knowledgable professor.

Prof. Wade's class was not as easy as I expected, the essay tests were not too hard but all of the information came from the lectures. Therefore, if you missed one class you were stuck begging for notes. Fairly easygoing professor though, and really makes the topic interesting.
