Comment:
Honestly if you have a chance to take 104 with a different professor, do it. His lectures would get sidetracked and he would completely miss the point in so many lectures. He gives zero test prep help so make sure you read everything. The TA was the worst. He is a nice guy but there was little positive takeaway from this course.

Huckfeldt is a stand-up guy with very fun lectures. However, he is pretty old-school. His lecture slides have very little information on them, and he tends to get side tracked and talk about whatever he wants in lecture. However, if you show up to class and take good notes you should be fine.

California Politics with Huckfedlt was great! It was a pretty casual class, not a lot of work, just your standard two papers, midterm and final. The TA we had was a more difficult grader then expected.

He is a very funny, nice person. however, his class lacka organization, his paper criteria is not clear (you will need to discuss with the TA multiple times), his TA grades way too hard for a poli sci class. I understand upper division and UC standards, but he will call you out on your test for minute details. kind, but would not recommend.

He basically reads from the slides. The TA was an extremely picky grader. He does NOT provide a study guide for the exams. His slides are unorganized. He made an otherwise interesting class very boring. Pay attention to props, acts, and their ramifications because you'll be tested heavily on them. Overall, not an easy GE or political science class.

Really fun prof. He loves what he does. Tests are pretty easy, just take great notes from class and study them (write down what he says, not just what's on the slides). Paper prompts can be misleading, make sure to get clarification about the prompts from your TA before you start writing. Don't need to study textbook, just read over assigned Chs.

Professor Huckfeldt is a very caring professor and he addresses politics from a very unbiased perspective and respects all beliefs. Most people do not read the textbook, but his midterms have many questions addresses only in the book, its a lot of reading but if you can keep up, its worth it and you'll take a lot from the class. It's a doable class

Comment:
Professor Huckfeldt tends to go off tangent a lot in his lectures. Attendance is mandatory as he does random in class activities, which are worth a good amount of your grade. Reading is a must, as many questions on midterms come from the readings. Overall though, he is passionate about political science in general.

Comment:
Textbook readings are dense and boring but helpful for tests. The tests are okay but count for 75% of your grade, so reading and studying are a MUST. There are a lot of articles to read as well. The lectures are boring and he goes off on a lot of tangents, but he does 10 mandatory participation activities at random in lecture - so attend!

He is a sweet sweet man! However he goes on tangents and his lecturing could use some improvement. But the class its self wasn't a lot of work and getting a good grade is doable!

Huckfedlt is a very caring man, and you can tell. However, his class was greatly disorganized. A lot of the lectures weren't related to California government at all. I found it to be an easy A, just pay attention to lectures, study everything for the exams and you will do fine. I didn't read anything for this class and found it simple.

I have no idea where the exam questions come from. His lectures are highly unorganized and he seems to go off in tangents. He doesn't really have a structured list of topics we have to learn. I would never recommend this class to anyone.

I was looking forward to this class prior to taking it, but this professor ruined it for me. Lectures are dull, disorganized, and contain little substantive information (despite his slides containing nothing but text). Expect to do a majority of the reading. Two papers, one midterm, one final; got screwed on the midterm for not reading.

My TA, Ronnie, was SO HELPFUL. Try to switch to her if you can! Her slide materials basically gave us everything to know for the tests. The essays are really tricky though, and graded pretty harshly. I got a C on exam 1, Cs on the essays, but I studied her slides and got an A on exam 2 and the final and got a B+. He's funny, I think.

He tells some interesting stories that relate to the course, but sometimes goes on wild tangents. The TA I had was very helpful and energetic about the subject. Attendance to his lectures and TA sections dwindled towards the end of the quarter though.

Lets T.A.s grade essays so they are picky. Hard to get a good grade without putting in a TON of effort.. Dont know where info comes from on tests. need to go to class for credit.
