He is a knowledgeable prof. Knows his subject inside out and is actually excited about it. But his lectures are dry and frustrating. At times they feel like they are an hour to long.

Ryan Hurl is one of the most unorganized, borderline unprofessional professors I know. If you're lecture slides read 'Click to add title', and are totally useless to begin with, then I suggest stop teaching.

He speaks as if he's lecturing the U.S. Senate, so nobody comes to lecture. I have his exam in 5 hours, and expect to fail it hard. The exam content so far removed from the course material, and he is a very unorganized professor in how he manages the course.

I never read the textbooks except to maybe skim through before exams and went to class like half the time. His notes are posted online but don't make much sense and he skips around in lecture. Tests were really hard. 10 page paper that is like half your grade. I was expecting a C in the class when i walked out of the final but somehow got a B.

his tests are extremely hard and he gives a****load of notes. you don't ever have to go to class because he posts all his notes online but they often don't make much sense. your grade in the class is pretty much based on an 8-10 page paper. not a fun class at all, but it's do-able.

count how many times he says "mmmkay" during a lecture. he is very pro-Canada in an american politics class. all of his T.A.'s are worthless and we bought expensive books we never used. Make sure you get an A+ on the paper to even out the failing grades on midterm/final. i warn you: he is a terrible teacher! at least you dont have to go to class!

I took him for Great Political Thinkers and Intro to Political Theory. Both classes follow the same structure - Read most of the assigned book, listen to him lecture about it, write an essay. Difficult subject matter, but VERY LENIENT GRADING. Bad essays get B's, decent essays get B+'s, good lectures get A's

Took him for Great Political Thinkers: the Moderns and Hurl was great! Loved the format of the lectures and material offered. Notes were scattered, but if you've read the material you will be more than fine. Some of the philosophical jargon can get a bit circular... but other than that it was an engaging course... would def. take him again!!

Hurl is a good teacher. His notes are really messy and not helpful, but that wont hurt you too much in the class. The 10 pg paper sucks. Still take the class, easy "B", but an "A" is possible if you put the time in.

Politcal Change and Legal Development....Hurl is a great guy AND the only republican in the Poly Sci department. I thought the class was difficult, but that was mostly because his lectures and notes are sort of confusing. 10 page paper = death. Excellent class if you're interested in the topic.

this class all depends on your TA. going to his lectures is a waste of time. tests are curved a lot! grade is based on midterm, final, an 8 page paper, and participation in your discussion class. sucks that its not a gordon rule class...

Comment:
This is my second class with Hurl and he is a great professor. This is an easy intro course especially if you have a good TA. Tests are multiple choice/essay and curved. There is an 8 page paper on a topic of your choosing. His notes are horribly disorganized but the concepts are still easy to grasp. You don't have to go to class but he's hilarious
