Comment:
Professor Jacobson was very rude. The course was confusing and hard to grasp with no assistance by him. The material was difficult and he was very hateful if it was not understood automatically. He literally had an attitude when students reached out. I would not recommend.

He is a very nice professor and he does respond to emails fairly quickly compared to most. However, there are only 4 thinks you receive a grade on. 3 test each are worth 30% of your grade and 10 page paper that is worth 10%. He has weekly quizzes but they arent worth anything. The test are VERY oddly worded and its makes the class 1000x harder.

He's chill, he thinks he's funny and he is sometimes and sometimes he's not. The class is nice if you truly enjoy Philosophy, if not then you'll find his class terribly boring. He has a review day the day before the test in which he goes over the study guide, he wont finish the study guide because he repeats himself a lot but it is helpful.

Dr. Jacobson is nice and a really funny guy, I enjoyed his lectures even though the material itself was confusing. You really need to listen and take notes while he's lecturing because the outlines posted on icollege won't help at all. He does review days before the exam which are SUPER helpful. Tests are multiple choice with about 2 free response.

Comment:
Hes overall a really nice guy, but his class is based completely over his lecutres. And the issue is, his lectures are horrible lol. He really just rambles for 50 minutes and goes off topic alot and is real boring. You can tell hes very intellegent and interested in what hes teaching. Content overall is easy but if you get bored fast, stay away

Dr. Jacobson is a great teacher. the subject itself is pretty confusing. but it was interesting nonetheless. and Dr. Jacobson does a really good job explaining things in a simple way (most of the times). make sure you come to class, or else the test will be confusing. overall, if you're just starting out with philosophy, he would be a solid choice.

He's really sweet and sarcastic. As long as you go to lectures and pay close attention you should be fine. You have to understand the lectures to do well on the tests because they can be a bit wordy. Overall the content he covers is interesting and you're confused he's more than happy to explain it until you understand.

Sweet old guy, but his lectures are just not great for me. Posts all the notes on iCollege and does review days before the tests. I stopped going to class at some point and still did alright on the exams (though I don't recommend doing that, they're not easy). He doesn't take attendance but can get upset if a lot of people stop showing up to class.

Comment:
Jacobson is disorganized, inarticulate, and even kinda rude when students ask questions. He's also one of my favorite professors. Despite his unorthodox teaching style, his classes are really engaging. Recommend you take any of his classes as long as you can keep up with the readings and not get lost because of the chaos.

I see that most of these rates are from about 3 years ago BUT it is now 2019 and I don't know if he hates teaching now or if he is just lazy. Class lectures are so disorganized. You can't follow along to what he is saying because he bounces back and forth between topics AND half of the exam material is based on what he says in class. RUN!

Dr. Jacobson is THE sweetest little old man and a darling professor. He communicates the material clearly in his lectures, and he lightens up the oftentimes heavy subjects with doses of his self-deprecating humor. His assignments and tests are all straight-forward and doable. He is a funny guy, a reasonable grader, and an effective professor.

You need to do a fair amount of reading and possibly show up to office hours to get clear on the concepts. He's laid back and doesn't grade too harshly, but the material in class can be fairly dense so make sure you put in the extra work to understand it.

He makes lame jokes, but he won't call on you in class. Philosophy is incredibly boring as is, and he is rather dry but he teaches the material well and knows it. He can answer your toughest questions and will respond to emails quickly. He gave us our test questions a week in advance, so there was no reason not to get a perfect score.

Very knowledgeable guy. Very laid back. He really knows his stuff. I learned most in this class just by attending his lectures. He outlines all of the readings in class and thoroughly explains the theories in layman terms. Tests are 3-4 short essays. And one final paper.

Mr. Jacobson is an overall sweet teacher, but his PERS2001 class was not as easy as expected. He only gives 3 test ALL TRUE/FALSE! There is no extra credit or homework assignment to balance your grade if you do indeed fail one of the true/false test so it's hard to get an A in the class. I wouldn't say it is a GPA booster class, therefore don' take

Dr. Jacobson is very smart and passionate about the subject. I definitely learned a lot. But, the class is pretty disorganized and off the cuff, the grading is arbitrary (though not too harsh) and the material is pretty inaccessible to most students, in my estimation. Gives great feedback.

Boring. Spends half of class repeating himself and catering to below the lowest common denominator. Passed his exam after skipping lectures for 2 weeks. Good if you want an easy pass, bad if you want to actually learn something and be engaged.

Jacobson is a great professor and is very knowledgeable about the subject matter. His lectures are long and can be dry at times. However, if you don't understand, then he will stop to explain it to you better. He gives out test questions a week in advance, and you're allowed to bring a cheat sheet! He's extremely mellow/chill. Would recommend.

Pros: Gives test questions ahead of class, lenient on when you turn in your position paper Cons: Professor Jacobson finds philosophical insights so fascinating that he tends to repeat himself throughout his lectures. He will find 10 ways to say the same thing so others can grasp. Annoying if you understand. For this reason, I don't want him again.
