Professor Klein is a great guy! He really knows what he's doing. I took him twice. Once for COMM 203 and the second time for COMM 455. He can be boring at times but is a great professor overall. He has retired now so I don't know what his plan is but if I get the chance, I would definitely take him again!

Professor Klein was the best professor ever!! The first day of classes he was so intimidating but I was completely wrong about him. He is so easy and really understanding and easy to get along with. Take him!!!! He is retiring now so I am glad I took him!!

Proffesor Klein is a great professor. He has you do one assignment that accounts for a large part of your grade doing your own journalism story. The rest of the class is presentations and speakers. If you want an A go see him during office hours, and do all the assigned work. He's an effort teacher if you try hard your grade will show it.

Professor Klein goes above and beyond as a professor. He's tough but it's totally worth it. I learn more in his classes than I do in all of my other comm class combined. I would recommend him to anyone who is serious about the field of journalism.

Steve Klein is a real jerk sometimes, but this man went out of his way for me and taught me a lot. You will love to hate him but Klein helped me land an internship with C-Span and then gave me a letter of recommendation for a job I was applying for. This man is tough yes; but damn if he didn't make me earn my grades.

Klein is the man. He cares about his students. If you put in the effort and go to office hours, you will do well. If you are not an EJ minor or comm student don't bother taking him. It's all about the current state of things, not so much the history.

Supportive & fairish but neurotic; lots of small assignments. Has students give presentations instead of teaching but then constantly interrupts. Tests a bit unpredictable. He's a bit older & has trouble w/large class but! knows his stuff & we've had a lot of professional journalists as great guest speakers who're v helpful to be able to talk with.

He does like the sound of his own voice, and you will soon learn what his political leanings are. If he knows yours are different from his, he will want to pick on you, which is uncomfortable since in the end, he gives the grades out. Other than that, I did learn a lot. FYI, you will HAVE to go to his office hours to get a good grade.

Expects a lot out of you. Go to his office hours and edit your stories with him. He knows his stuff. Tough grader, but it gets you prepared for the workplace. If you go to his office hours and can write decently enough - you can get a good grade. A lot of kids in my class didn't bother and got bad grades - and I am sure will be on here complaining

HIST of Print Journalism-Maybe it was because I'm a History major and this class was taught for COMM students, but I loathed everything about this class. Klein can't keep a schedule, bad books, boring lectures, weird grading, too much blogging. His concept of teaching this class was aimed at COMM students, so if you aren't one, beware prof klein.

When he says people SHOULD see him during office hours about a paper, he means people HAVE to see him during office hours in order to get above a C+.

Great teacher- tends to talk a lot and interrupt, but he has tons of information to give. May seem self-important, but genuinely cares about students. Go to class and do "The One Thing". There are random quizzes (read the book), and presentations on chapters in the media book. You will learn a lot about journalism.

It's easy to tell from the disparity of comments below those students who skipped Klein's classes and those who didn't. One really has to try to fail to get on his "bad side", & skipping class is a good way to do that. More likely, unprepared kids who thought they could cruise by in this course were challenged & suffered the consequences. Boo hoo!

Good: Really easy class, interesting material, accessible, and fast grader. Bad: Bad listener (irony in COMM professor), defensive about his way of things (you'll understand if you take him), and interrupts people a lot. He even interrupts the guest speakers. It was kind of embarrassing at times to watch him do that. Not recommended.

I enjoyed the class thoroughly. I learned a lot from him. It is true that he does interrupt you when you're talking, but sometimes it is actually helpful. The assignments are incredibly easy and he is always willing to help. I am very happy I took this class.

I took COMM 303 with Professor Klein over the summer, and it was an awesome learning experience. The class is not that difficult, and Klein is well-networked all around the journalism field. We got to interact with a lot of really cool guest speakers. Fair grader, tough on AP style, but really looks out for the students. Highly recommended!

The class was easy, most of us did not have to try very hard to do well. He does have a huge ego, but isn't very tough. If you go to a few office hours and talk a little in class you will be his favorite. If you're not his favorite though, he won't remember your name. Not a terrible teacher/class, he is pretty fair.

He is incredibly arrogant and rude. He talks**** about his students and takes credit for anything good you do that he wants to be known for. He represents everything bad about teaching.

Comment:
Klein is very fond of hearing his own voice. It gets old fast when he consistently interrupts students, but at least he's usually saying something of merit. COMM 361 assignments are time consuming but not altogether very challenging. If he sees that you're putting forth sincere effort, you're going to pass this extremely useful and rewarding class.

If Klein likes you, you're golden. If he doesn't like you, he will let you know, but you can still pass his class. Had a guest speaker almost every class, and the classes where we did not have a guest speaker he spent most of his time complaining about mistakes that people kept making.
