He treated his FYE class far too seriously. While most of my friends had a great time in their FYE classes, my roommate and I who had him at separate times were miserable. He has a no cell phone policy and will go on a solid 15 minute rant if he sees one.

Dr. Whelan is by far the worst prof I have. The work he gives you is completely irrelevant and busy work. All of his class time is spent talking about his recent publishings and books rather than anything relevant to help us with the course. Out of all my classes I had the most work from this class. SO. MANY. ASSIGNMENTS. Like at least 4 a week

Easiest course I ever took. A lot of readings but they are interesting if you put effort into reading them. Not really interesting lectures but not really boring either. He really tries to make the class interesting though! Quizzes and tests are very easy. TAKE THE CLASS IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE!

Literally finished this class in a 2 week span. Just read sparknotes and shmoop for the readings and listen to the audio. The test and quizzes are easy as long as you do this. Listening to the audio was the hardest part of this class.

I held off taking this class bc of the amount of reading. But it really isn't bad. I took it over the summer which I recommend bc he lets you work at your own pace. All the stories were really interesting and he gave the best lectures I've ever heard at GSU. I love the sound of his voice & could listen to his lectures all day, which I have!

I took this class during the summer, and it required an extreme amount of reading for 5 weeks. 34 lessons and a total of 46 quizzes and 3 tests. The quizzes and tests aren't hard as long as you read the text. The lectures are posted, but I didn't listen to them. As long as you read the text, you'll be fine.

Great professor! Heavy reading load (just read a summary of the readings and you'll survive). You'll work daily for a month because of the 34 lessons you are required to do, but I loved his video lectures. Over 40 quizzes and 3 Tests. Quizzes are easy/short and many of their questions appear on test. Use the materials provided and you'll get an A.

I took this class online. Dr. Whelan's quizzes are based off the lectures. Maybe hard to hear but they are really easy. He does give out alot of notes but don't let that scare you. Both tests come straight from the notes & quizzes. If you read over them you should be fine. Easy A!

This was an easy class. I got an A in a week. You could get it done in a week or two no problem. I took it online, and the only thing you'll need for this class are headphones. Some lectures sound fine, but others can barely be heard, so headphones are a must. It can be boring but the quizzes are right from the lecture and test are not hard.

Took as a traditional in-classroom, yet he treated it as a hybrid and we did the work of the online class & were expected to attend. He is disorganized & scatterbrained, which is confusing. If you try to get help outside of class, or have a problem, you will just get rudeness & more confusion. Lectures and tests on his personal opinions and beliefs

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Yes it's online, yes, you might think it's easy and convenient, but it's really not. The online lectures were an absolute mess, you can barely make out the audio recordings, and that's if you manage to get them to play. The tests are quite hard, although the quizzes were a breeze. A TON of required reading for this class.

This class covered some very interesting topic, and I got a lot more out of it than I initially thought I would. To all the people saying this class is difficult; it's not. I listened to the lectures, took detailed notes, and read over the materials he posted (not eve in depth), and made and A on nearly everything. I would recommend this class.

I took this as an online class. The amount of reading was tremendous but interesting. Prof Whelan also makes his lectures interesting, although the sound quality should be better. Didn't expect to like this class but I did. Great class, great teacher.

I took this class completely online. It was ALOT of work but what class isnt. As long as you listen to the lectures and read, You will do well. When you see how the points are distributed it can be a little discouraging but do your work and you'll be fine. I got an A

Way too much work for a 1 hour online class. This class prevented me from obtaining a 4.0 this semester. Tests do not reflect lectures. I would avoid this online class if you can. It's a fairly easy B, but still not worth the work.

This class was way too difficult to be a 1-hour, online class. I had a 4.0 through two years until this class. I ended up with a B in this class, which has been the only one I have gotten so far. The tests do not reflect the info in the lectures.

Nothing worthwhile should be easy, it should be a challenge. With that said, his topics were interesting and his presentation of the material was very good. However, the clarity of the audio and text documents provided in the online class were not the quality I would expect from such a great professor.

Im someone who usually finds this type of literature class boring but this prof. made the material interesting through his detailed, helpful, & entertaining lectures. I took this course entirely online and would definitely recommend others who need this class to do the same, with this professor. Listen to the lectures and take notes and its easy!

i took this online and they were the most boring topics ever. He posted lectures online that were wayyy too long and very boring. I think he just likes to hear himself talk. After an hour long lecture you had to take a 5 question quiz that was most of the time true/fasle and sometimes not pertaining to the lecture. Would NOT recommend him at ALL!!

I took the online course for this and it was VERY easy! I don't know what these other people are talking about! I got like a 98 in the class. If you stay on top of your work, you will be fine.
