So much work. Nearly every unit had a discussion board, activities, 2-3 essays, a huge reading quiz, etc. Her grading was arbitrary- if I followed her feedback on one essay, she would count me off for it on the next. She does give feedback, but it's unhelpful if she doesn't even follow her own advice. Not a bad teacher, it is doable. Just unpleasnt

Dr. Scott is a lot of fun in person but her online classes are incredibly work heavy. For a five unit class I would typically have two small papers, a large paper, discussion board, and reading quiz. That is along with textbook activities for participation. She is great about feedback, and responds to emails quickly. I prefer to have her in person

Scott is a wonderful professor. She is serious about history and historical writing so be prepared to work for your grade. That being said she is always willing to help and readily available for anything you need. Do the reading and turn in good work and her class will be one of the best of your life.

Comment:
Do not take HST 311 online with Scott if you can avoid it the reading quizzes are ridiculous and the amount of papers you have to write is ridiculous. Half the time you dont even get the stuff you do back in a timely manner. She assigns so much she cant keep up with it. I have not read one enjoyable thing in her class all semester. Disappointed.

I have taken two classes with Dr. Scott and received an A in both. However, shes hard. You work for every point in her classes, especially the online courses. You will come out a better student than you left, but be prepared to work. If her lecture and the textbook conflicts, whatever she said in lecture is the answer she wants on the test.

Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. She appreciates students that are willing to put in the work and actually read and discuss. Her online classes require reading quizzes, discussion boards, and papers, all of which require you to do the reading. She is willing to meet with you out of class and gives extra credit opportunities

I've had Dr Scott for three online classes and she is GREAT. But you have to work - lots of reading and lots of writing. Fair grading with feedback. She gives syllabus on Day One with complete outline of class and grading - no surprises. Lots of chances for extra credit. Looking for easy grade - move on. Want to learn - this is it.

If you can get past her daily stories about her family and Alabama the class isn't too bad. She knows what she's talking about content wise. Take tons of notes in class because even though she puts powerpoints online, they are bullet points with one or two words. The tests aren't bad but make sure to study the people mentioned in class.

I have Dr. Scott for Hst 300 and have had her for a 100 level class. She is very helpful and cares about her students learning the material. She gives a lot of work, but that is the way it should be for a 300 level class. I know she is always there for me if I need anything! Take Dr. Scott and she will show you how to be passionate about History :)

Her classes are hard, but totally worth it! She is the best teacher I have ever taken at MSU, and I have learned more from her than anyone else. You have to study hard for the tests and write a few papers, but if you are willing to put in some effort; you will take a lot away from it.

Dr. Scott is an amazing professor. Although she is a tough grader, she knows how to improve your writing skills in order to obtain good grades for the 300 courses. She was always available to talk or to answer emails about my work. Overall, I enjoyed her class even if I had to work hard.

Dr. Scott is very intimidating. However, she tries to make jokes occasionally to lighten things up. Mention Alabama football to get on her good side (: She knows what she is talking about, and you can tell she is passionate. TONS of notes, the tests are rough, and there are several semi-long papers. Must attend class regularly.

Incredible depth of understanding of religious material. Respect (but with realistic descriptions) for all religions including Christianity, which is a rare attribute in a college professor. I took classes just because she taught them.

Dr.Scott is an amazing professor, she is also my advisor. She has a low tolerance for people who do not show up to her class. Expects students to read class material, and to talk about it in class. You write essays, and the tests are hard, but you learn the material. I plan on taking her Medieval Europe class in the spring.

On a personal level, she's very nice and friendly and was very helpful. Her teaching, however, is a bit inconsistent. She requires a lot of essays, but her writing expectations are all over the place. I god D's on essays in her class that other history professors told me were spot-on accurate and English professors said were very well written.
