Ann is an amazing conductor! I have been in the orchestra since my first day here and it quickly became the highlight of my week. The music she picks is interesting and fun and she's absolutely hilarious! So many stories about past "gigs" and co-workers!

Comment:
I am a musician that performs in one of Ann's ensembles. I feel that as a professor her teaching skills are extremely limited and personality based. Hence, if Ann likes you you will receive a higher grade than if she disliked you. Her rehearsals seem pointless at times because she only focuses on the strings. She is not a balanced professor.

Has a passion for teaching, however she allows her personal opinions of students to get in the way. Unfair grader: Grading is based on personality so suck up. If you ask any music students at random that has had her they will more often than not make a face or roll their eyes...

Overall, I found Ann to be somewhat unprofessional in her relationships with students. She played favorites with some musicians and ignored others.

Comment:
Ann is a phenomenal musician, conductor, and educator. She is extremely knowledgeable, and is not trapped in the proverbial ivory tower of academe. If the repertoire she selects is basic, it is only because of the limits of the ensemble with which she works.

For orchestra: Keeps things TOO simple most of the time. If you have a background in music and are looking to learn about expression, phrasing, or small details, she's not the professor for you. But if you're completely new to orchestral groups, just stay on her good side and you'll be totally fine. Music's wicked easy.

I'm NOT a music major or minor, but I've been in her orchestra since day one in college. She's funny and great to get along with. She'll go out of her way to help you if you just ask. She's a great violist and violinist and is clearly passionate about music. She's one of the true treasures at URI.

Ann was an ok teacher. She let students teach the class most of the time, but that was ok I guess. She could have worked a little harder.

Ann Danis is one of the most talented faculty members at URI. If people do poorly in her 101 class, it's because they put in very little effort. If you have a question - just go up and ask her - meet with her for her office hours. yeah, she may go by the book = but that should be easy to follow!

She really does do the lectures right from the books. But she's really funny, and cracked me up wicked bad. Class is interesting and you get to hear some beautiful music. NOTE: she DOES take attendance. and uh... study for the tests. it helps.

She is an awesome violist and violinist. She explains the instrument so well and is absolutely hysterical. She is also a great orchestra director. She is lively and a lot of fun to be around.

Class is taken straight from the textbook, almost word for word. Professor is funny and passionate about music but seems indifferent to students. Tests are really easy if you get one of her study guides. Cancels class on all holidays.
