Dr. Jory is great!! I never had an interest in Family Studies before taking FAM 230 with him. He gives great feedback on exams and is really understanding and considerate. Also, he's pretty flexible with due dates and attendance. I would highly recommend Dr. Jory, he's an awesome professor :)

Dr. Jory was awesome. He used all 75 minutes of his class to tell crazy stories from his extensive career in family studies. The tests are not to be taken lightly, but they are doable. I got a D on the first test and As on both tests after that. Dr. Jory assigns you to read his own book, which is surprisingly interesting and fun. Highly reccomend!

Of all the classes Dr Jory teaches this one is the hardest but you learn a lot of practical things you will actually use in the real world, like how to conduct an interview, professional ethics, write a case study. I feel it has prepared me for a job in the real world working with people in human services.

Dr. Jory's classes can seem a little daunting but at the end of the day you learn invaluable material. As someone who has now completed the Family Studies minor, I can say that I use things talked about in these classes in the real world. Dr. Jory was encouraging and always willing to answer questions or discuss topics of interest in greater depth.

Although attendance is not mandatory, you learn a lot in lectures. The exams are based off of your reading and the lectures in class, so be prepared to pay attention to both! The class before an exam he speeds through everything that is on the exam to help you make a "study guide" so be ready to write.

Dr. Jory is truly a great guy and a good professor. His lectures are memorable, and he genuinely cares about his students. He tells insane but (possibly) true stories. If you take his FAM 230 class, prepare for a wild ride.

The final is optional and the only grades you have are three tests, but they are easy enough. Just read the book and study your notes from lecture. Apparently if you skip class for no reason it's 10 points off your final grade, so you need to show up. Dr. Jory is a counselor so he is very understanding and kind. His lecture topics are crazy but fun

He's okay. Not my favorite prof, not the worst. His lectures were usually enjoyable. For 330, you had to do this weird project where you had to find a family in a unique situation, then do a presentation about them. I didn't particularly enjoy that project because I'm shy and I feel like he's asking you to invade peoples' private lives.

His class is easy, not too many assignments or readings. Very interesting lectures no matter what major you are and the information in his classes is useful for everyday life. He is willing to clarify and he goes over the test the class before, so if you write down what he says you will pass the test if you study that.

No text book. Tests are very specific, but the information is a lot of common sense and comes straight from the powerpoint. He gave a lot of extra credit. The major assignment was really controversial when he first presented it until he explained it more fully. It was in interesting and somewhat enjoyable class.

Dr. Jory is really nice and likes to have good class discussions, and he's really amazing in his field. As far as being his student goes, I never felt academically challenged, or like there was much critical thinking. Also, a large part of exams is just statistical info, which was not accurate to the book and difficult to remember exact numbers.

I have had 3 courses with Dr. Jory. While I love the topics of the classes he teaches, unfortunately he does them a disservice. On several occasions (most classes) I felt that he had completely wasted my time & failed to challenge me academically...at all. He may be an expert in the field, but he does not have the skill of teaching the material.
