Comment:
I took this class during the fall of my freshman and, through no fault of Dr. Dorries, it was terrible. The course was, as it was designed by the powers that be, run by peer adivsors and centered mostly on introspection which if fact left me with more pointless writing to do. I am so glad they revamped the orientation courses.

Comment:
Dr. Dorries seems to be going through some sort of mental breakdown this year and his mental problems have come into the classroom. As a person he is really nice and I know he cares about his students. But, he is disorganized and has his TA's grade all of the work. His lectures make very little sense. You will teach yourself.

He is a nice professor but is very unorganized and lacks concrete, broad, and diverse real-life examples to better communicate and conceptualize concepts from class. Textbooks are rarely used. Doesn't communicate effectively across diverse groups of people.

Great professor with real world experience. We watch a lot of commercials in t the class to study actual advertising. read the book on your own time before class so that you can engage the professor. I definitely think you should take the class!

Do NOT graduate MBC before taking a class with Dorries. He will open your eyes up to the WORLD and make you want to change it. He pushes you to do your best and is very supportive & respectful of his students. Take a class w/ him, you'll grow up a little & learn a lot about life!

Comment:
Class discussions are often irrelevant to the textbook, which reads like low-end high school material. Dorries interjects academic themes and scholarly titles at random into his rambling lectures comparable to name-dropping, yet fails to demonstrate understanding of their meanings. His interaction with students in class is often frivolous, and for reaction only.

Dorries' classes are easy to understand and he is open to your questions. He prepares you for the real world. Only thing: you MUST keep up with your textbook or you WILL fall behind. He does not "reteach" in class what he has asked you to read. Overall best teacher in COMM! Not bad to look at either. very attractive!!!

Okay, i do Oratoricals all the time and I came in his class thinking that he could teach me nothing taht I already knew...but he did! It was not the speaking that I am use to in competitions, more like every day speaking but he was really helpful. I just wish we could have done more Manuscript speeches. But anyone would love him! He's the best!

I hate public speaking, but he helped empower and encourage me. I learned SO much and am a much better speaker through his class. He's clear, easygoing, very helpful, and engaging to listen to. I got an A in the class - the one class I was ready to leave college for since I was scared to publicly speak. He helped me conquer my fear.

the people that complain about his classes are lazy--they're all easy and he's always willing to help you out. i have ZERO sympathy for those who fail, because he'll always give you ample chances to succeed. if mediocrity here were not so prevalent, he wouldn't have to dumb down his classes so much.

Really great professor, if you work hard and get the work done you are sure to get a good grade. He is always available to discuss anything about class and likes feedback from students on what he is doing right and what he might need to do better.
