Comment:
Dr. Hallen is a pretty nice person one-on-one, but hands down the worst professor I've had. He isn't concise at all when lecturing, teaching this course in a way that assumes we are already vastly knowledgeable in the subject. It was not uncommon for 75% of the class to score below 20% on exams, and he brags about failing 50% of his students.

Hands down worst professor I have ever had. Had to drop class and switch major because of an INTRO class and I wasn't the only student in the class to do the same. Went to LS session that helped a little but lectures are all over the place and exam are very difficult. If you want to pass Chem 101 take someone else because this guy sucks.

Grades extremely hard. Make sure to fill in every little thing on reports (will take off all points for a section if miss 1 of many blanks). Hard to understand him when he lectures bc hes all over the place, but he is willing to take time to help if you ask. Make sure to read the entire lab book bc he expects you to know it inside and out.

AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!! worst lab professor ever. So happy I pass this class so I will not have to deal with him. He takes off points for the dumbest reasons on lab reports. Do not take him at all.

Hallen was honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had. He made lab 10x more difficult than it needed to be. He literally admitted to my class that he looks for things wrong on lab reports just to deduct points from students. He hates giving full credit and nothing is ever good enough for him. If you have an option drop his class!

By far, Dr. Hallen is the worst professor I've ever had. And I only had him for lab! I'm definitely not a lazy student, nor am I one to expect grades and information to be given to me, but the grades Hallen gave out were ridiculous. He explains nothing, and expected my intro chem class to already be knowledge NOT TO MENTION he's pretty rude

You really need to utilize your textbook and use that to teach yourself because this professor does not do a great job. If you can't teach youself a course, don't take this class with him.

Professor Hallen was by far the worst professor I've ever had. I had read his reviews but needed to take this class for credits toward my major, and he was the only professor with seats (not a surprise). He does not teach at all, he just shows you the slide and lets you figure it out. No explanation. Only positive I can say is that he curves heavy

He is a tough lecture professor and does not slow down unless multiple people are confused. If you go to his office hours and show genuine concern for how you do, he is very helpful.

I really love science so I was excited to take this class. If you don't do all of the practice problems, good luck passing. The tests are super hard and he flies through material. Overall, great guy, bad class.

Worst teacher I ever had, doesn't help always says "if you don't get it, I can't help you". Doesn't answer emails, is not willing to help you. Just reads from slides and doesn't explain anything. WORST PROFESSOR, DON'T TAKE HIM IF YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO PASS

I rarely knew what was going on or even what chapter we were discussing, and he refuses to answer questions because he crams too much information into one course. Also, his PowerPoints are all over the place. He jumps from topic A to topic B and back to A again, and was frequently unprepared. He knows what he's talking about, but nobody else does.

It should say something about your teaching when you have to curve every test at least 10 points. I wish I could've had him before he had tenure, MAYBE he would've been half decent then.

He doesn't teach he just reads slides to the class. He made an intro 101 class into the hardest class I've ever taken at bloomsburg. It should say something about your teaching when you have to curve every test at least 10 points.

Dr. Hallen is a very hard professor. He expects you to do a lot of work on your own, which I understand since this is college, but with chemistry it isn't easy. I recommend getting a tutor, and also switching professors if you get the chance. Especially for us nursing majors, it's critical that we pass our classes with nothing less than a C-

Dr. Hallen's lectures are useless if you do not understand chemistry. He goes off on tangents, makes snide comments, and rarely answers questions. His explanations make no sense. He tries to show how smart he is rather than help his students. The clicker quizzes take up half of class and he complains about not having enough time to teach.

Do not recommend taking his class. I had Intro to Chem. He is very disorganized. He reads off of his slides and gives you no time to copy everything. He gives you the notes on line, but they are old notes and do not match the updated notes that he gives during class. It is very hard to follow along and he uses clickers everyday.

Absolutely the worst and hardest class I've taken so far. He just reads off power points the whole class and sometimes gets angry if you ask him to actually show you how to do something or ask him to repeat himself. Tests are EXTREMELY challenging. If you actually want to pass Chemistry take a different professor.

He is a good professor, he knows what he is talking about! He likes to be sarcastic, but if you take the time to talk to him he will really help you out. His tests are curved so much that as long as you go to class and study a bit it is hard to fail this course.
