Comment:
Do NOT take this class if you just need a gen ed, it's way too much work. Dr. Steffensmeier is a nice guy and pretty funny at times but his boring lectures literally put you to sleep. 7 tests with a ton of material and 2 really long papers are what you're graded on. Only take it if you're very interested in criminology.

He really does what he can to help you understand the material. The course was extremely simple. He assigns specific readings for each exam but the great thing is that he provides study guides in the readings packet that are filled with questions that are then on the exams verbatim. Come to class pay attentionread do the study guide get an A.

This class is really crime based. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't really interested in studying that field. I'm a forensics major and I enjoyed the course. I found the studies really interesting - but that's me. If you like theory and all - TAKE IT. If not. Don't.

This was to be an introductory course which turned out to be like a 400lvl. The study guides he gave you to do were not on the exams. What he taught half time for notes was not on the exam, so you had no clue what to study for. Very disappointed and would not take him again.

This man... He knows what he is talking about, but is all over the place. Extremely hard to follow his notes. I am an Engineering major and have no business in this class. Don't take it if you are NOT interested in crime, itll bite you in the butt lol.

Good class to take if you're interested in crime. He can make some really funny comments at times to get your attention. Exams are straight from the study guides so just follow them and you'll be fine. Hardest part of the course is the project paper so make sure you get a jump on it early. But overall, I recommend the class.

Has some interesting stories and seems to be a decent researcher but I would certainly not call him an educator. Mandates attendance for his class and takes it personal when you do not show up. Will check your attendance grade before grading the final paper making it extremely bias for those who had missed more classes than the maximum allowed.

Dr Steffensmeier is amazing!! He is so funny and cute and very enjoyable to listen to! He definitely knows his stuff and has an interesting story for just about everything! As long as you go to class and skim the readings you will be fine.

before this class, i'd taken two previous crim classes. i learned the same theories in other classes, yet in his class i had no idea what the heck he was talking about when he would talk about those same exact theories. i ended up with a b- in the class, but only because my final paper was good.

LOVE HIM! He is such a cute, nice, old little man :) The class is so easy as long as you do the assigned readings for the study guide questions and go to class! The exams are long but easy because all the info is from the notes or study guide. He's very into his own research and loves what he does. I love him, deff my favorite prof. so far at PSU!!

He's so freaking hilarious...lecutres are always interesting. The exams are really long but if you do the study questions in the packet and take notes you'll ace the exams because the questions come straight from the study guide. You dont even need to read just skim and answer the questions and you'll be fine.

LOVE THIS CLASS. If you're not at all interested in the material, you probably won't enjoy it (obviously), BUT if you are I highly recommend taking this class. Going to class gets you bonus points sometimes, and his stories are great. Lectures are boring once in a while. The lowest test grade I got was an 89, and I really didn't study much.

Everything seems to be about the book he wrote, which coincidentally is the class text book. My book this, my book that, honestly, just take a different story class, the tests are easier. I think he only teaches so that kids have to buy his damn book.

Steffensmeier was one of my favorite professors so far. Everyone here is just complaining because if you don't do the work, you won't get the A. Reading is absolutely necessary and attending class is a must. He is funny and interesting, and he DEFINITELY knows his sutff. The book isn't half bad, and if this is your cup of tea, you will love it.

This prof is incredible. And not in a good way. He is extremely boring, hard to follow, although he does have good stories. Exams are extremely difficult for an intro course. And then gives a final paper that is 9-12 pages, and uses your paper for his personal research, which you must make fit his PERSONAL research, or you will most likely get an F
