David is crazy man. Thats his charm. Ive taken two classes with him and I dont think Ill ever take another because at this point, I see through his shtick. If you love documentary filmmaking, take any class with him. Regardless of the syllabus hell teach documentary. I adore him as a person.

Comment:

David is a personal documentary focused creator and his film-making, lights, and specifically the topics in production course with him was extremely inspiring. He lets you into his personal life and experiences which help you analyze and build skills in handheld camera operation and sequential shooting.

This is my second semester with David and I will take with him more classes. this professor is incredible. I have checked his rate before I took these classes with him, so now I am rating him for you guys. I highly recommend you guys to take classes with him. briefly, He is helpful and teaching in a good way.

Comment:

Professor Parry studied with the pioneers of direct cinema, so experiencing being his student puts you one degree away from filmmakers like Jonas Mekas and Richard Leacock. Although his lectures often stray from the syllabus, he taught me how to appreciate my vision and to actually notice the beauty of light and shadows in the world around me.

Comment:

I took his Cinema Verite class like 7 or 8 years ago. I am reviewing him years later because this teacher stays with you like that. He hung with the greats and will not let that fact bypass you, but who cares, it makes him even more interesting. Dave Parry is the most inspirational and encouraging professor I had. I would highly recommend him.

I had him last semester for a general filmmaking class. Let me start by saying that he's really smart when it comes to filmmaking, both in terms of professional sets, and practical (student budget) sets. On the other hand, he's kind of crazy. We start the class on topic then end it talking about the birth of his child. I'm taking him again.

if he likes you, you will get a good grade. if he doesn't like you no matter how good your work is you will get an average grade. this man is very cool. but he well never answer your questions because he never listens to them. he will never return your e-mail or keeps proper office hrs.if you are good at doing stuff on your own then take him.

I had Parry for the Documentary Workshop class back in Fall '98. Great class. He teaches you a lot of stuff that's more practical. Great storyteller. He went to MIT where they invented sync film camera systems so he knows his****. Good filmmaker too.

I swear this guy is smoking something. His class is a blast. He's pretty easy. I suggest you take his class. He's also got a lot of great tips that other teachers don't give you.
