Comment:

Professor Comer is incredibly sweet. I took her W101 class online, pass/fail. She is very soft-spoken and the work is not difficult at all. We had two meeting times a week but normally would only meet for one of them. If you're looking for a thrilling W101, I would not recommend this class. It's pretty boring but definitely easy.

Fantastic Writing 101 class! A 2500-word paper is the most you'll write in the class, which isn't a lot compared to the majority of the other Writing 101 classes. Doesn't assign homework aside from 3 papers (all 1000 words or less). Final project was a photo album that was really easy and fun to make

Really kind and understanding. I loved the her Writing in Mindfulness class and her incorporation of mindfulness into the class and into the writing process.

I took Writing 270 this summer and it was a big disappointment. It turned out to be a huge waste of time. Although it was online, it was clear that the professor really didn't put much time or effort into the class.

I took this course online through Coursera. First of all, your interaction with the professor is nonexistent. All of your work is peer-graded, so you have to go off of THEIR knowledge and adherence to the grading rubric. The teacher was monotone and slightly annoying to listen to. Reading was unnecessary. For free, not bad. Wouldn't pay for it.

Dr. Comer is a very nice person, and she wants to get to know her students well. She assigns many papers and projects, as well as a lot of reading. This is to be expected in a writing class though. She doesn't give any tests which is nice.

Her Social Media writing course is great. There are a few assignments each week, including some longer papers but the workload is very manageable. If you show that you're putting in the effort you will be rewarded.

Comment:

Prof. Comer is an amazing teacher. The topic of social media is fun to discuss to begin with, so writing about it is almost enjoyable. The little projects that we do leading up to the two major projects are extremely helpful at generating ideas to be used in the major project. Homework is usually write a blog post. She's great.

Class was very interesting. There are a lot of readings but you don't get quizzed on them so skimming is okay. She is very understanding so if you fall behind ask for an extension. She is a sweetheart and does not want to see you fail. If you try and you participate, you'll fair off pretty well. One of the better writing professors at Duke.

Someone recommended this class to me and I'm glad I took it. Dr.Comer was very nice and approachable. I was a terrible writer before but I did really well in the class b/c it's easy to do well
