He wants Boston to become pedestrian only. Don't let him know if you have a car.

This prof is under attack by Antifa trolls from the 420chan website. Please ignore reviews until they go away.

Really needs to keep his soapbox politics out of the classroom. I'm here to learn. Not be brainwashed with propaganda.

Had to read 2 books during the semester, one was interesting & the other was not. There is an easy quiz on most chapters of one, one midterm, a 3-part term project with loose guidelines, and a final. Pretty easy class but 3 hours long. Nathan is very nice and a good guy.

Comment:
Phillips is a great guy who loves what he does, but this is the least intellectually stimulating class at BU. Lectures were boring and even cringe-worthy. A watered-down version of BI 107. If you put in any bit of work, you'll easily pull a great grade but if you want to learn anything at all, take anything else. Would not recommend or take again.

Comment:
Phillips is a nice guy and is clearly passionate about class but that does not translate into a well organized class. This course won't bring much additional skills or much usefulness for you. Project guidelines are unclear and midterm is not knowledge-based. I would suggest taking a substitute if you can. You will be bored most of class.

He is a boss when it comes to trees, but other than that he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. His discussions aren't always helpful, but they are always interesting. They are kinda just about what is on his mind that day. I always looked forward to going to his class though; he really listens to people and is always openminded.

Phillips is probably the discussion leader that you want (besides Coverdill) if you take CC 106. Hated the class, but he was a nice guy and had some life to his discussions.

Comment:
Readings are quite interesting (the two books are not textbook-style, but more narrative & "story-like") & lectures simply highlight the important idears of biogeography. could be more organized, but the FIELD TRIPS make up for it. Nathan Phillips is very very helpful and you should definitely approach him outside of class.

Mediocre (at best) class, but Phillips' discussions helped make up for the soul-crushing dullness of most lectures. As a lecturer, while not amazing, he isn't bad.
