She is extremely knowledgeable & has classroom experience that is valuable. My main issue is that she is very particular and won't give you full credit for your papers and projects unless you do something extra. I figured this out after my first project and then made sure to do on the others so I can get high grades. Don't expect any flexibility!

This professor is extremely specific on requirements for assignment submissions - and it varies for different types of assignments so double check all instructions every time. She is a very hard grader and I frequently got Bs on literature reviews on books for which I thought I would get As. Thankfully she gives you credit for class activities.

I absolutely love Dr. Hoffman. She is very passionate about what she teaches and her knowledge of books is incredible. I always look forward to going to her class and she usually lets class out a little early (unless there's lots of work to do). She is a tough grader and you do read a lot (but it is a reading class so). Highly recommend!!!

A fantastic professor! I found her to be very insightful and she offered lots of talks about her experiences and really opened our eyes to literature when taking this class. Take her for ANY class if you get the chance!

Dr. Hoffman is awesome. She is very caring and kind. Each week there is a "talking point" due on the textbook reading. There are several essays for lit circles. Easy class if you show up.

This woman is so unclear in her instruction that she had to let the class rewrite papers multiple times. She then took 10 points off for turning it in late. Class is lecture heavy and boring, but you have to attend. She won't let you make up in-class work even if you have a Dr's note. Impossible grader. Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Very intense grader when her instruction on web courses is unclear. Skip class? wont pass. NO excused absences. very strict. do not recommend as this behavior should not reflect on how a teacher should be. plus and minus grading too!

To pass her course EVERY SINGLE ASSIGNMENT must be turned in but I turned in an assignment 2 months later and received full credit. She is extremely understanding and wants all of her students to go out and become successful teachers. Very few projects but they were all fun to do. No quizzes or exams just reading interactions to show that you read

Loved this class and professor. Made a 3 hour class something I actually wanted to sit through. Provides what I would consider the most important&useful information I have learned in any education class. Uses various teaching strategies within the classroom to make it fun. Willing to work with you if problems arise. Wants students to succeed

I took this class for summer A, so because of that if you missed class you wouldn't pass. There are topic points that you'll need to fill out as homework. There is this content test she makes you take and gives you a horrible book to study for it and that's it. She won't go over it in class, just tells you what to focus on. She will let you fix it.

She is difficult and tedious in her assignments, however you really learn something in this class. You know what to expect at all times and she makes sure you have all you need to do your work. Tests are fairly easy; as long as you pay attention in class and do your work your golden! With opportunities for revisions on work.

Hoffman is an excellent professor. She is tough but fair. There is a lot of writing for RED 3012 and at time it will feel discouraging, but you will get better as you keep doing the assignments (writing RECs). She writes good feedback and allows you to resubmit, very fair! She does an excellent job giving you good ideas for the classroom!

Where do I begin. I worked my butt off in this class, turned everything in and was an exemplary student. Her grading system is ridiculous - you will never see an A on an assignment. I got a B in the class. I have passed A&P, physics, neural bases but this class was TREMENDOUSLY HARD. I was stressed all semester, several ppl dropped the class

Do not take this course if you have a heavy course load because the amount you have to do for this class is crazy! Do not take her if you can avoid it.

The amount of work for this course was excessive to the point of absurdity. Her teaching style, rules, and grading seemed to be designed to stifle an innate desire to teach. I found her previous excellent reviews to be an inaccurate portrayal of her current teaching. If you want to foster a passion to teach children to read, do not take her class!

The professor is fair but she has a limit that she is willing to explain something. If you don't get with her initial explanation you will need to bad. Also very picky on her directions being followed. Ex. if you skip the space in a citation she will subtract a point. You can get an A her class but you will work for it.

Dr. Hoffman has had a lasting impression on my career. I took her for multiple classes including Childrens lit and RED2012/ 2013. I graduated last year and I'm about to wrap up my first year teaching. Her lessons are EXTREMELY relevant and she is the only teacher whose lessons I refer to now for my own instruction. If she still teaches, TAKE HER!
