Bless his heart. He tried his best with the technology. Lectures were dry but he's clearly very passionate about what he teaches. He was always polite, never condescending. Participation never required. It's a good class if you want to get the credit out of the way. I passed with a B and I'm satisfied.

Dr. Caporaso is alright. He pretty much reads off the Powerpoints every class and is not tech-savvy. His tests have a ton of questions on random, trivial concepts while glossing over the more important information from the study guides. It's easy to lose a lot of points even if you know most of the material.

I am here to tell you that this professor is old, arrogant, and stubborn. Do not take any classes with him because he is NOT tech-savvy and a know it all. I submitted a paper on time and received a 50% because he waited 2 months to grade the papers and mine corrupted after submission. He is also bias, racist, and a very rude man. He also ignores u!

class was just lectures and very boring ones at that. the slides were available online, but 905 of what you're tested on isn't on them its what he says in class in passing comments that you wouldn't know to write down. Theres 4 quizzes, 3 exams and 2 projects. Thats all ur graded on.

Dr. Caporaso is extremely caring of his students, humorous and knows everything about science. If you express interest out will get so much out of his lectures, and he gives you immense credit for asking questions and being curious in class. Read a few chapters in each book he recommends and learn that content well, that gets you very far.

This is a chemistry class. I didn't think this would go so in depth about the chemistry behind the foods we eat. It is very interesting but a ton of information to remember for the midterms. Only take this if you are interested in the Chemistry behind foods.

He is an awful professor. All he does is just read off his slides and show random videos. The tests are way too specific about the content and you have to memorize very minuscule details about concepts that he doesn't spend the time to teach you in class. Take nutrition to fill your science GE if you can.

Comment:
All I have to say is this professor is awful. He only lectures, plays pointless videos and counts "extra credit" as an actual assignment in the grade book. His tests have nothing to do with what he lectures on and are very hard. Do not expect to get higher than a C in this class.

the most uninteresting, unnecessary, and awful class I have taken thus far. Of my time at Chapman this class and professor have been my least favorite. So much time is wasted in class watching random videos. Do not recommend this class ESPECIALLY if this is simply to fulfill a science requirement. STAY AWAY

Convoluted, confusing, and contradicting are the three words that come to my mind. Convoluted instructions for projects/assignments-has 5 diff criteria for the same assignment each doc w diff instructions. Often contradicts himself with directions given-announced an "extra credit" talk, then decided that it was to be worth points in the grade book.

Horrible. Harder than any 300-level FSN course, more boring than any 101 course. Prof is rude, condescending, sexist, and tenured (no duh). Paying money to eat tortilla chips and read the same lecture slides he's been using for 30 years is not my idea of learning.

Amazing teacher! Really inspiring. In a class of 80 people, this professor new my name. He's really sweet and intelligent. I would definitely recommend this class if you don't like science and are fascinated by food! There are occasional little quizzes but this teacher prepares you well and offers a lot of extra credit.

The professor tries his best to make sure you understand but fails miserably. He gives practice questions for both the quizzes and midterms but the midterms have nothing to do with the questions he assigns so don't waste your time. Attend all SI sessions if you want to pass this class because there's no way you'll do it without them.

It's a pretty easy class, but there are six essays overall, but they were all fairly easy to write. If you're interested in science and evolution, I would recommend the class; personally, I just wasn't super interested. He's a really nice guy, loves turtles.

Caporaso is a nice guy and really cares about what he's teaching... but makes it too difficult for the level of comprehension that could be expected of a 100 level class. Class is entirely lectures - no textbook. Tests and quizzes ask very specific info from lectures so they are all memorization. Don't take this class if you want an easy A.

Caporaso is alright, he knows his stuff but won't tell you what's on the tests. There is no textbook and no study guide for the tests so if you don't show up to class, forget it. Overall, the class is perfectly manageable and my favorite part was the cereal project, comparing nutritional values of 2 different cereal boxes. Average rating, I guess.

Comment:
I took this class for my natural sciences inquiry because it seemed easiest (Science is not my forte), and I loved it! Caporaso is very knowledgeable in Food Sciences, and keeps the class interesting with his dry humor. If you show up to every class and use a notebook instead of a laptop (so you aren't distracted) to take notes you will get an A.

Caporaso is a nice guy but won't tell you straight out what is going to be on tests and is vague about essays. Attendance isn't mandatory and he is strict about paying attention in class. He makes the class interesting but you really have to study and pay attention if you want to get a solid A in the class.

Took for GE credit- 100 level class as a senior, found it pretty easy as such. Definitely 100 level. 2 essays during semester, 3 tests. Set up class study sessions for all tests. Everything is on powerpoints- which are on Blackboard. Answers and all questions, even if they are stupid. Tests are pretty hard, but they are multiple choice.
