Comment:
This was my third course with Prof. Rubio. He is a brilliant man and laid-back. All his courses work the same: plenty of readings which most of us only skim through (as he likes to say) and your grade depends on a takehome final. He gives you the questions six or eight weeks before it's due, so it's not tough. I like his courses.

Someone wrote "awful" for Dr. Rubio and I can not believe it. He kind of changed my life. If you have academic curiosity, he's the person to go to. And you don't have a final exam, it's a take home he gives you many weeks before the deadline. I owe Dr. Rubio my degree. He really cares about us.

Prof. Rubio is a nice guy. Another student complains about the takehome final, but that's the only reason I got A- in this course. It's an honors course, so to write 9 pages in 2 months isn't brutal. And he lets us send him drafts and then gives us feedback before we turn it in. If you can write 9 pages in 2 months, it's a good course.

Do not take this class. The workload is absurd for an introductory class. I took 10U as an elective and because Prof. Rubio had good reviews, but I had no idea the amount of work that would be required. The final (albeit a take-home one) consisted of two essays totaling a minimum of 9 SINGLE SPACED pages. That's essentially a mini-thesis. Absurd.

He is a great professor! Mesopotamia isn't the most exciting topic, but he makes you want to come to class. The material isn't always the easiest so you have to work for your grade. But if you put in the effort, you will get a good grade - especially because he is always willing to help out. Highly recommend!

Dr. Rubio is an amazing prof who is a nice person. When we had to switch to online teaching because of the coronavirus, he did an nice job to keep us in the loop. This was an honors course but some people never understood it, so they complained about homework. He was very understanding when I told him about my family situation. Nice man.

Rubio is nice and the class was fun most of the time, but some days were boring. The readings were probably too much for some students, but he's a very understanding guy. Rubio is also very funny, if you pay attention to his jokes.

If you have the chance to take him- DO IT. He is a tough grader but gives you all the feedback you need, and if you can show improvement throughout the semester, he will bump your grade from as far as a C to an A. (He follows his own grading scale so he can do that!) Rubio really cares about his students and just wants to see growth.

Love this man, he is extraordinarily understanding, and really just wants to see growth and your best effort! For this class, your grade was based off of two papers, so if you procrastinate this might not be the best course for you! He is hilarious, super personable, and really, really cares about the well being of his students. 100000% recommend.

If you're looking to take a 400 level class that doesn't require a pre req, don't take this class unless you have history in language in the Middle East. Hi request single spaced papers that fairly hard again for people who have no history in language. PDF's were hard to read. He's a very nice professor though and very understanding, he's witty.

This professor is absolutely amazing- I have taken him for 9 credits straight. He is hilarious, his lectures are awesome, and he genuinely cares about his students. (He helped me fix my entire schedule two weeks into semester when LIONPATH deleted the whole thing) You HAVE to go to class, but you will want to anyways. Loved him for CAMS44 &115

Professor Rubio is hilarious and really easy to talk to. I love that he's willing to speak to everyone & give a better understanding of what we're learning. his accent was originally hard to understand, but you get used to it. I would recommend studying with other students in the class so you all can bounce the information off each other.

Reviews here say how funny Rubio is, and he's hilarious, self-deprecating. But he's also generous and caring. He reads the drafts of our final papers and sends us articles, notes, everything we need. And the man is brilliant. I haven't met a more intelligent prof. I think he's read every book and learned every language, almost.

Dr. Rubio is the best. I can not imagine ever having a better professor. He is kind, charismatic, and so smart (how many languages does he speak? he won't tell us) and funny,. He's hilarious. I wasn't especially interested in Mesopotamia and the ancient world, but I may switch my major because of him.

Dr. Rubio's lectures can be hilarious. He's also very smart, knows literally everything about the ancient world and all their dead languages. He listens when you talk and his answers are very helpful. He's a sweet guy too, and I like that. He has a foreign accent (I like it) but his grammar is perfect.
