Comment:
During online school, Dr. Spencer was a passionate and understanding professor. He was very willing to give out paper extensions if you explained your situation. There was a decent amount of reading but manageable. Every class session, we would begin with a brief introduction to the topic, group discussion, and then class shareout. 4 essays.

Prof. Spencer is a really nice and genuine guy and he really cares about the stuff he is teaching. My only complaint about his class is the workload. I didn't expect a UCOR class to have almost as much work than my calc 3 and chem class combined. Readings are about 150-200 pages per week, and there are 4 decently sized essays throughout the quarter

Comment:
Dr. Spencer is a very lengthy and boring lecturer. His classes are so boring and homework is just 20-50 pages of reading a night. oof Lots of empty group work. There's some pop quiz kind of stuff, so be on top of reading. I worked so hard on his papers and I never got a break so I don't recommend this class for UCOR. Dreaded going to this class.

Pr. Spencer's class its awesome! You have to read A LOT. In class, he might ask random questions to those who stay quiet in class, so participation its needed to avoid the situation. A lot of group discussions which is super easy. Quizzes are easy with open notes. Two major papers which he does give great feedback.

Dr. Spencer is such a nice man. I enjoyed that our class was based around German Churches & the 3rd Reich, his area of expertise. I could tell there was a lot of passion behind his teaching. You get as much as you put into his class, and I regret not doing more of the nightly reading (there is a lot). Makes me want to take more history classes!

Professor Spencer is absolutely amazing and a very down to earth guy. It is obvious that not everyone is interested in German Churches and the Third Reich, but he is passionate about the topic and I enjoyed his class. Go to class (it counts!), and 99% of class is discussion based, grade is mainly based on papers. Be prepared to read A LOT...

Dr. Spencer is such a nice guy! When he comes in, he asks the class how we're doing, and really seems to care. There's a lot of group discussion, so you have to read the material (I never did), and he's really passionate about the subject. He's also good about being available and replying to emails.

Dr. Spencer is a good teacher, but not my favorite. He calls on people during class a lot, I know to get them involved but ends up putting you on the spot. He talks about tough stuff in European history, but grazes over other big historical events (Armenian/Assyrian genocide, Japan WWII). Easy grader on papers though and willing to help you succeed

Loves to call on people that he knows are not paying attention. I slightly condescending but a very easy grader. Very knowledgable about history

Dr. Spencer is great! His class is almost 100% discussion based, so get ready to read. I thought most of the content was interesting so it wasn't dreadful. Participating is a must and he calls on those who are avoiding being called on sometimes. He is extremely knowledgeable in his field and gives 110% to helping his students.

The topic he teaches is boring in general but he tries his best to make it interesting. He's nerdy and awkward but super nice. Lots of reading but he grades easy and is willing to sit down with you to look over your papers and find ways to make it better. Lots of group work and discussion. Take him!

Dr. Spencer is great. While I have no interest in European history, he makes the class bearable and tries to get the students interested. He's a little awkward, but very kind and genuinely cares about his students. He is very responsive and wants you to do well! There is heavy reading and he does like to call on random people, but he grades easy.

Dr. Spencer is the best teacher I have ever had. He is approachable (if a little awkward), extremely helpful, and eager to engage students in discussion to facilitate learning. The reading is relatively manageable, and while the discipline by nature may not be exceptionally interesting, he offers new (and balanced) perspectives. Highly recommend.

He's an easy going guy. He keeps classes interesting with activities and the time usually passes fast. There is a lot of reading and you need to know the information. He likes to call on people randomly but I found that if you voluntarily raise your hand and share a lot, he won't randomly call on you. Good teacher overall, I would recommend him

So much reading every night, and the class requires very intensive note taking on those readings. He calls you out in class and purposefully chooses on you if you seem like you won't know the answer. Otherwise, a really boring class on a really boring topic. Not to mention the back to back essays you have to write that are very time consuming.

Forces you to rethink history in very interesting ways. Very vague, but fascinating readings and assignments. Lots of in class discussion and small groups (he takes attendance). Easy grader, but requires a lot of reading and writing! Incredibly intelligent and knows his stuff front and back. Very kind and approachable.
