Not a bad professor or class, but the book is really dense and the notes for his lessons aren't that helpful. The only time I actually learned something was when we had guest speakers. Granted, it was a new topic for me but a positively dull class overall.

Your grade for this class is based solely on midterm, final, and debate. He says he takes attendance but he only took it once while I was in class. Midterm and final are essay based on 20 political topics and you have no clue which one he will pick. He doesn't post grades either so you have no clue what your making.

Class was extremely interesting, when i signed up for the class i knew nothing about the topic, and i learned a lot because the professor kept the material relevant. and if you had any trouble understanding all you had to do was ask for help and he would help you to the best of his ability

The European Government class was interesting, but Barnes seemed to not really get into the fundamentals of the subject. His tests were fair, although, and only covered what he went over in class. A smart and laid back man who is really interested in his subject. Funny too and a fair grader!

The best teacher I've had in college yet. The nicest guy ever, really takes interest in the students. Loves to cancel Friday classes, very easy to get along with. Amazing person in general, I would absolutely recommend him to anyone!

I took his Urban Politics class and served as his instructer's assistant the following semester. He is an extremely knowledgable man and a fair grader. He is open to knew ideas, even if they conflict with his own. He has a great interest in his students, and I have found that he is very popular and friendly among his current and former students.

This class was one of the worst that i have ever taken. if you take this class have fun reading scribbles off of a blackboard b/c that is the majority of he teaching. the tests are not that hard but if you have no notes its kinda hard to study. i would not take this class again if you paid me.

Good guy but I had trouble coming to class because of the 9am thing and no attendance policy. His class is interesting, but he tends to ramble a bit and go off on tangents. Really cool guy outside of class I think I would really enjoy the class if it wasnt so damn early

I had Mr. Barnes for Urban Politics, and it was a great class. The man is very intelligent and a very good professor. Both the tests are 4-5 page papers, one 15 page term paper that was optional for my class. He is a very very recommended teacher.

Barnes is an awesome professor and a wonderful person. He really loves teaching and getting his students involved and does everything possible to make sure that you are doing well in his class and understand what's going on. He is super helpful, very very nice and extremely caring. Any chance you have to take him, DO IT!

Absolutely awesome teacher! Love the post that he has seen the world and understood it, this is a truly grounded gifted man and is awesome to talk with after class. Have to disagree with some others and say he really doesnt liberalize his lectures, if the facts dont line up with the way you think maybe you need to start thinking different.

If you dont like this teacher, you shouldnt be in college. He is former ASU teacher of the year and a brilliant man who in his lifetime has seen the world and understood it. Lectures can be boring, but 90 percent of the time he is asking the class open questions, and keeping everyone amused. Take this professor before he retires, you wont regret it

Barnes had an obvious liberal view on politics. He knows about facts, but often misconstrues issues to make other people look stupid. His lectures are interesting, and easy to follow. Tests are difficult, but final grade reflects knowledge expressed in the test. Mostly, the grade reflects participation in the discussion.
