Professor Reed was a nice guy, but he would rather push his political beliefs than actually teach the content. I disagreed with his views and he would ask questions in a way that would require you to see things through his lens. I tried my best to comply and answer the way he would want so I could get a good grade.

Comment:
Dr. Reed clearly enjoys sociology, but he is very political and does not open conversation to hear other beliefs. There are 1 or 2 lengthy discussions every week along with a few papers that do not seem fairly graded based on his guidelines. Throughout my time in his class, I felt that there were many times were I was singled out due to my race.

I'm sad that I will be not returning back to NAU, but I will miss having Dr. Reed as a professor. His lectures prepared students for writing papers and he told us interesting stories. Also, he knows everyone names which is nice. Overall, his class was mostly writing A LOT of papers but if you do your work and read the syllabus, you will be fine.

At first I hated this class because all of the papers but at least we dont have to take tests. Also Mr. Reed is a nice guy and makes the lectures intriguing. I wish I could take him again but my schedule doesnt fit. 10/10! Also dont know why there are some bad ratings about his class, if you do your work and read the syllabus, you will do good!

I love Reed, he's one of my fav professors. Amazing lectures, but you have to be engaged and paying attention. Two books to read, with small articles. LOTS OF WRITING - no tests or quizzes, all essays. Cares about his students and will always listen to what you have to say. Encourages thinking outside the box or devil's advocates - def recommend!!

I took his sociology 201 class because I didnt want to wake up at 8am with a different professor. Anyways Reed assigns a lot of essays that are time consuming but hey, at least we dont have to take tests. Hes a funny guy but I just dread the work load.

Professor Reed is awesome! He is hilarious and passionate in his lectures. The class is graded based on essays alone, and the essays are book reflections/reviews so you don't need to go to class very often. I would not recommend this class if you don't like writing! There's an essay due almost every week.

Professor Reed was one of my favourite professors. He always took time to answer even the dumbest questions. Definitely cares about his students and how to improve their outlook on life. I came out of this class with a new view on arguments and sociology in general. Super cool guy. Definitely would take a class with him again.

Professor Reed is hands down my favorite professor at Northern Arizona University. His lectures and the reading material for this course are always incredibly intriguing. This class is writing and lecture intensive, which will make it difficult if you're hoping to pass this class with minimal work.

This funny eccentric is great at building thought-provoking discussions and providing new perspectives on life. He's heavy on lectures, readings, and essays (no tests/PPTs). Attendance is optional, but I showed up because he's interesting. He's pushed me academically and helped challenge preconceptions in a way that I'll remember for quite a while.

The class is out of 350 points, 125 of them are attendance, and the rest are 4 papers and an editorial paper. He is not clear on what he wants on the papers at all, pretty much your on your own. If he does not agree with your opinion you do not get a good grade. Took this class for an easy A and defiantly wasn't what I expected. Would NOT recom.

Reed is by far my favorite professor at NAU! He is very passionate about the subject and his lectures are so interesting that I never wanted to miss one of his classes because he goes over so much information and I learned so much from him. He is very intelligent and has a great sense of humor.

James Reed: favorite professor! He is funny and really cares that his students understand the content. He does speak a lot but it is in a captivating way. I agree his grading can be unusual but if he likes you and you focus on his feedback, you can get easy a's on his essays (also due dates are flexible, mine were always late and I still got A's)

Reed is a very interesting teacher. He is hilarious and very old-fashioned with lectures. There are no powerpoints, lectures are simply him writing on the board and interacting with the class. There are 6-7 essays that take a lot of time, but I got perfect scores on of them. Just read the rubric for them and you'll be fine.

James is one of my favorite professors! He is absolutely hilarious and he's very passionate about the subject, all of his lectures were extremely interesting and fun to go to. The class was very easy, only a couple essays and a take home final and he gives a lot of points for attendance, so don't skip!

Reed's intelligence and humor definitely drives this class. This class is mainly lecture which can sometimes be brutal after a long day, but for the most part, I found him extremely interesting. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and when you offer up an opposing view, he WILL challenge you, so prepare for that!

He's a really awesome teacher and his class is really easy. So long as you come in with an open mind the class will be easy for you. There aren't any test but there is a paper for each module which is really easy so long as you come to class and follow the prompt.

He does not make it clear what he is looking for in his papers. He also will dismiss your thought in class if he does not agree. One of the most frustrating class I have ever taken.
