Dr. Young is an amazing professor, and makes a difficult subject enjoyable! He's incredibly caring and is helpful during his office hours, not only that but he offers many opportunities for extra credit. Be warned, there are partner quizzes every Monday and self-quizzes every Wednesday, but he drops the two worst of each at the end of the quarter.

Great teacher. The material he has to cover is what makes this class so hard. He knows and he cares. You'll have extra credit options, there is no midterm, there are 2 quizzes/week that are often very hard, 1 you do alone and 1 w/ a partner- he drops your 2 lowest from both. Final was take home for us, but it was still very difficult. A good choice

Jeff does not give exams but instead two quizzes a week - one you complete with a partner and the other on your own with a notecard. I found this to be extremely helpful as it kept me up on the readings regularly so I was highly prepared for lecture. Really listen to what he says in class - it's most important. Such a funny guy too.

He gives two quizzes a week, you can drop your lowest two for each. Hard grader and quizzes weren't super fair, but no exams and he gives a lot of extra credit.

Jeff's 321 class was the hardest class I took at WWU. I wasn't a BIO major so that may have had something do w/ it but I was still pretty surprised w/ the difficulty of it. In my opinion he teaches at a higher level than what the prereqs would suggest. Weekly partner quizzes are nice but it is definitely a hard class and be prepared to study hard

This was the best class I have ever taken. We had group exams and wrote our own questions - which were a bit like mini papers. Aside from that, the material was exactly what I needed to remind myself why I love science. I learned so much in this class.

Jeff is such a good person. His tests are hard, but he prepares you well for them, providing many dates for review sessions and lots of extra resources. I really believe that biology is a field that can only thrive if there are professors like Dr. Young. He challenges you intellectually, but the way he teaches really makes you motivated to getthe A

Professor Young is one of the more interesting people this world has to offer and he really knows his genetics. If you put in the hard work your grade will reflect it. Utilize his office hours before an exam and do ALL the practice problems, then his "hard" tests are not so scary. Be prepared to use the whole 80 minutes to finish the test though!

Dr. Young's class is hands down one of the most challenging courses I have had, but also very rewarding. His tests are pretty difficult, but he gives a lot of extra points for other things to compensate. He just wants you to work hard. He's a pretty funny guy, and very approachable. Take his class, one of my favorite profs in the bio department.

He's a good prof who really cares about his subject. Sometimes it comes off like he doesn't care about the students, because he's so smart and doesn't understand his audience. But he does care about his students. My best advice: come to lectures, write down every single thing he says, then go home and decode it.

I can't imagine a better person to learn genetics from. Explains things very well, is inspiring, and very open/available & helpful outside of class. He really wants you to succeed. His multiple-multiple choice questions are the only bummer, the short answer questions are reasonable if you practice out of the book. My favorite professor!

Horrible. Tests are way too hard for the concepts he presents in class. In class, it's simple, but his tests require to extrapolate and extend your knowledge beyond anything he has ever given you in class. He does not set you up for success

okay, the last comment was mine and looking back i think i was a little too harsh. young is a really nice guy, but his tests are just way too difficult and poorly worded. and he really isn't the easiest person to listen to in lecture... but he's not the worst professor by any means, and he sure does love Arabidopsis thaliana. and his dog Dudley.

Young is hilarious. His tests are hard, and often worded kind of vaguely. It definitely takes effort, but overall I liked his class. And that's saying something, since it was all about plants in way more detail than I ever wanted.

Very good prof. Its a hard class, yes. But, its BIOL 3OO level! Be sure to keep up with your work. Go to his office! Very helpful. The second exam average was bad, but he did things that made it better. Lots of extra credit. Do it. He bumps your grade if you've shown lots of improvement. Good prof. Good class. Work hard. Its good stuf to learn!

My absolute favorite teacher. My advice if you are taking 321 is pair up with a very studious smart person for the weekly quizzes and do the practice problems- they are quite indicative of the midterm/final. This is a class you attend- every day! There
