Comment:

Take a class from Lidke if you want to expand your worldview and ability to interpret foreign concepts. If you listen closely and with an open heart and mind, you will see a way of thinking that he wants to show you. However, if you struggle with xenophobia or cant understand something you dont agree with, you will not succeed.

Comment:

The most lecture-heavy professor I've ever had, and the lectures are usually pretty dry too. He teaches the class as if it's an upper level religion class, when it's just gen-ed. Assigned a major group presentation, a final paper, and a written test all due in the last two weeks of class. A lot of very dry assigned reading.

Comment:

Dr. Lidke is an amazing professor who, at his best, shows the unique characteristics of every faith, as well as their similarities. At his worst, he'll ramble aimlessly about tantric sex and the various films he assigns, but he's always accessible to talk about class or just chat. I would not be a Buddhist without this man and his meditation group.

He expects you to memorize everything to the smallest detail. Im so lost taking his classes and his tests are extremely hard. If you are into religion for your major its different. This is too hard for a foundations class.

Comment:

Lidke is a great guy who cares about his student's success. He is really passionate about what he teaches. Write the papers only if you are comfortable going to his office and discussing ideas. He will read your paper before you formally turn it in and give advice on what to fix. He is also a really cool guy to get to know! Highly recommend.

If you like Buddha, then this is the class for you! Not much time spent on anything other than Asian Religions. Tests are all short answer with a lot of memorization.

Dr. Lidke is one of Berry's gems. His teaching style is relaxed, but you can't be lazy. A's don't come too easily, but they are achievable. Just study and actually want to learn! He is always available for questions and genuinely cares about his students. I cannot say enough good things! You will learn so much from him. Take him while you can!

Dr. Lidke is someone I greatly respect, both as a professor and as a person. His lectures were about average quality for Berry, but he clearly cares about his students and wants to help them do well. I felt like his grading was a little more lenient than some, so if you take the class seriously, then you should be fine.

Dr. Lidke is by far the most well-received professor I know of at this school. The few students who I have heard discredit him judge too hastily. His teaching, which goes beyond an intellectual level to something more subtle, has been an inspiration in my life to pursue spiritual wellbeing and academic achievement. Open your heart in his classes.

Dr. Lidke is a cool guy, and outside of class I love him! However, I did not like him as a professor.. he takes his GEN-ED religion classes WAY too seriously and even expects Doctorate work or you aren't getting an A. Great conversations and I love learning about other religions, but the class is awful.

I respect Dr. Lidke more than any professor at Berry College. In my "Religion and Film" class, I rarely obtained an "A," but the films we watched and the discussions we had were filled with the knowledge that an individual needs to become more well-rounded. If you don't want to think, don't take his class. He expects your best efforts.
