The only difficult part of this class are the map quizzes, that's really it. If you put in the time and effort to go over the maps a week before the tests you'll be golden. Not too interesting. He always shows slideshows of him on vacation which is pretty chill. Easy A if you show up and do the work. Really sweet guy.

Gives his top graduating students $500 dollar scholarships if they continue to study geography. Well liked by former students that have gone on to become geographers. Writes his own work books and continues to travel the World to stay abreast of current Geography. Recognize geography is about maps and making maps, so enjoy his method of teaching.

This class was awful. He tells you to buy the textbook and his workbook but you can get away easily with just his workbook. His tests have nothing to do with his study guides in his workbooks. You WILL spend your time coloring maps for his class. He is not lenient what so ever. All he talks about is the importance of attending college.

Very easy class. Purchase the workbook because everything you need for the class is in it. Homework is easy. Tests were alright because he would put things that he never talked about in them but he grades on a very generous curve. He doesn't really teach, usually just goes on tangents and tells stories about his travelling and college experience.

One of the most knowledgable, helpful and interesting professors I ever had. He is a super nice man and will help you with any assignment or missed test if you need. He makes class fun and he is very cool & easygoing. Will always remember him fondly!

Dr. Carthew is a knowledgeable teacher, and if you take notes and pay attention, you'll do well. Don't take this class if you're just looking for an easy A. You have to work for it.

an easy class you just need to buy the study guide & you're good to go.his class is very boring and you just need to go get the assignments and take the test. the test is basically just memorizing which city goes in which county. easy a class if u bother with it. i kept getting a c's or b's on his test but a's on his hw and got an a in the class

Easy A. Yes he's boring, goes off topic, and changes what he originally said (like what will be on a test), but he is helpful if you meet with him and really does want you to do well. If you can just sit through his class then you will pass. If you can't get an A in this class then you really tried not to.

I took his class my first year of college because I needed the unit, and boy did this class bore me. He is a great professor but gets off track easily, we learn more about his life than the material on the exams. I had to work my rear end off to pass this class with a C. Professor Carthew is an average professor.

Been doing it a long time! Despite his level of knowledge, the brats that attended my class made fun of him and constantly talked while he was lecturing. I'd say only 15% of the class was there at the end of the semester. I think XBOX and PS3 were much more alluring to the absent students.

A really nice, old man who is very knowledgeable in Geography. The only complaint I have is that he is might be a bit too old to be teaching as he often forgets what he lectured previously. Gets sidetracked very easily. However, he is still very sharp in regards to his craft and has a lot of motivation left in teaching students about geography.

He is a good teacher. Assignments are easy and so are the tests if u study. People should stop complaining about teachers who actually require work to be completed. This is school, not after school activities. Just do what is necessary and an A or B can be attainable!

I took summer session so attendance is mandatory. Missed one important lecture and got a c- on the test. There were 4 tests, lowest grade is dropped. Then there are assignments, and extra credit maps and reports. This class is average and might get boring but if you study a little you can get a satisfactory grade.

Don't take his class unless you need it. First of all, he is an older teacher, he has an outdated knowledge of the world geography. He doesn't provoke discussion at all, he is not interested in your opinion. He made several mistakes speaking about other countries, even I knew better, just from traveling. He wants to tell his stories.

He's a nice enough guy, but he's very unorganized. He says to study for one thing for a test, then tests us on something different. Students were walking in an hour late, not turning in work on the deadline, etc. Lectures would frequently veer off topic. Plus if I had to hear one more time how he went to UCLA I was going to scream!

Honestly cares about his students! Wants them to succeed and will do ANYTHING to help them with their college careers. NOT A CLASS FOR SARCASTIC,IMMATURE BRATS. This prof is best for students(of all ages)who have a mature attitude & a sincere interest in geography.Very helpful for first time college students who don't know much about college yet.

The quizzes are basically memorization and matching up places with the correct counties. He would require text but I suggest to buy only the study guide because that's basically what you really need. Some videos but only to help you picture what those places look like. Good sense of humor. Coloring some maps and making some charts (they're easy).

Mr. Carthew is awesome! He is definately a people person =). he grades on a curve, so it should be easy to pass. Just read your book a little, read your workbook, and do the assingments, and you will be fine! he also goes off tangent and says silly things to stimulate your mind!
