The way he tests is upsetting. You need to watch multiple 45+min videos per test and search for ONE SENTENCE directly quoted in order to answer correctly for about 1/3 of the questions, so I ended up needing to sift through videos for hours to find specific quotes that are largely insignificant. Very frustrating.

I had this professor spring of 2018 for half a semester because he had family problems. His class involved discussions on the reading every week, homework every 3 weeks and 1 book report on something related to asian americans.

Some students in my class were so disrespectful. He is a very direct teacher who follows through with exactly what he says he will do. Be prepared to read, and practice your note taking skills. I really enjoyed my Western Civ class with him.

He is a very bad teacher. He only allowed for one test to take a zero on and he would not let me retake it when I had the stomach flu. His notes are horrible and he draws all over the board like it's a football game plan. I would never take his class again and I hope anyone reading this learns it would be a bad idea

Ask long as you read the book and take notes in class, you're fine. If you don't want to work hard, don't take this class. He is very interesting, and will help you as long as you ask nicely! This was the only class I was comfortable speaking out in in 2 years. Very nice guy, I'm taking another one of his courses.

Worst professor I have ever had. I've never been so scared to participate in a classroom. He does not make students feel comfortable seeking extra help. I do not recommend taking his classes.

He is not a good teacher and his notes were very hard to comprehend. He was not helpful and wasn't the best teacher to come to if you were having problems.

Professor Lu is pretty tough. I took his Asian American history class online and there is quite a bit of a work load. You need to be really disciplined for this class. The text book was easy to read and Jon made himself available through email to answer all questions. Overall the class was interesting and informative but expect to work!

This class was very challenging and he makes you work. You have to read the textbook thoroughly and take good notes in order to do well. In the end, the class turned out to be very interesting and I learned a great deal about east Asian history.

Funny guy, I loved his class. I took it once alone then with a friend. Class is a bit tough but I got by with a B without reading the book. He's a smart guy that teaches well, I learned a lot from his classes and I would recommend him.

Three open book tests: one on China, one on Korea, and one on Japan. The tests are fairly difficult and cover around 100 pages of material. Textbook is extremely dry, heavy-going, and unimaginative. It takes a lot to read it (no joke). Lu is fairly boring in class. Only take this guy if you have to. You'll be better of taking someone more practical

What kind of tests does Lu give for the Asian 2260 course? (Can someone please post and explain what his tests are like and how to best pass them? He has assigned tons of reading (mostly a bunch of tedious, wordy stuff that is barely comprehensible.

Excellent teacher! Has 3 open book tests plus an essay which is the entire grade for the class, plus a 5 point bonus for perfect attendance. Makes history interesting. Responds quickly to email and is available to students for questions. By far the best teacher i,ve had.

If you want to fail, take this course. Cannot understand a word he says, he doesnt follow the syllabus AT ALL, material on his exmas are nothing we learned in class, not much help for tutoring. It's one of those classes where you either do extremely well or extremely poor.

The tests that he has are two open book and two multiple choice. The final test is worth 25 percent of your grade. He doesn't give jokes to make the material interesting. However, he adds 5 points to your final grade if you miss one or fewer classes.

Had him over summer for asian history. the 5 point bonus is wonderul, since there are only 3 tests and 1 essay, the bonus = +20 points on any test. his lectures are pretty interesting + we have round-table discussions. Book on the other hand is a crap x10, even with open book tests, unless you read it well = you're dead
