Professor Young is tough on standards in class and will make sure you abide by them but she's super approachable and supportive one on one. I have been in terrible fiction workshops where everyone is just one-upping each other and the teacher tears the work apart. You get honest but supportive feedback and she creates a great community.

I took Julie Young's Intro to Literary Magazine class. It was a great class, and we got to make a whole lit mag out of it! She was accessible and understanding. There is a fair amount of work towards the middle of the semester, but it peters out at the end.

Comment:

Very good at her job. Cares deeply about individuals, and works with them to achieve their goals. Has very specific prompts and will tell you exactly what she wants. Pop quizzes galore, but they are never hard as long as you did most of the work, and she almost always gives you a chance to retake them.

Absolutely amazing teacher. Daily, very easy homework (maybe half to a whole hour for each class), but it boosts your grade. Tough grader for essays, but gives very good feedback on essays, which makes it easy to understand what she wants from you. 10/10 would take again.

DO NOT TAKE HER!!! She gives hell a lot homework and do not understand how hard it is for us to do in short period of time! She acts like she wasn't college student before! Yeah it is true that we need to be responsible for all the home works and take home essays BUT she gives too much and those hws not relative and not effective to the learning!

DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Very difficult teacher. Requires students to attend writing lab in order to pass her class (when you're a student with a full time job i dont see how you may achieve this.) Completed all her essays and received a failing grade at the end of the semester. Way too much homework. Avoid her at all costs!

so im in 92 and our class is handed 96 work most of the time. We get a lot of homework and for simple homework assignments to get a check + you have to spend a lot of time. she is a hard grader on essays. she might be ok for a 96 teacher but not for 92 cause she will treat u like 96 students.

omg im taking eng 92 with her and it has been hell so far...she teaches 96 and almost all of the work she is giving is 96. She gives out too much homework and assigns homework with little clarity at the last minute of class.. i would avoid her if i were you...

I loved this class!! she opened my eyes up to something new. shes very very helpful when it comes to preparing you for your final drafts and even though the peer reviews are annoying, they help you improve your writing skills. you must attend but its worth it. plus shes a cool person overall

I took her grammar class past semester. She is a young, enthusiastic grammar guru who knows her stuff, and has a great sense of humor. She makes clear every major piece of grammar and answers your questions with a lot of sense. I have no idea how she does on other classes but I highly recommend her if you want to do your grammar some good.
