Her Youtube lectures are nice and her voice is really soothing and calming. Quizzes are simple and to the point, just make sure you take diligent notes on the lectures (add what she says herself too). Hard grader on discussions. She will give me feedback that says "excellent work", etc. and then give me an 85 or 90%, like what??

Dr. Zavota was great! She had a good way of breaking down the readings in her power points. I love her voice too, it is very calm and soothing to listen to. She gives amazing feedback after submitting discussion posts. Would definitely take a class with her in the future!

Dr. Zavota embodies what a Liberal Arts education in the classical tradition should be. You may find the theme of her course to be greater than the sum of its parts, just as a good art class leaves you perceiving reality as art. Dr. Z achieves a high level of sophistication in her thought and has an uncanny ability to elucidate the not-so-obvious.

Comment:
Dr.Zavota was very interested in the topic of Ethics, which engaged not only myslef, but others who were in the class with me. She was very clear in her lectures. As long as you go to class, take notes, and study those notes you will do great. The book/packet is used mainly for clarification purposes, only some material from the book is on quizzes.

Comment:
She is a nervous teacher and would often lose concentration during class. Her grading was sporadic and not very helpful. Her interaction with students was awkward at best. As far as papers go, her assignments are more like literary analysis than a philosophy paper. Overall, I'm not too happy with my experience, and I would suggest avoiding her.

She is not a very good teacher. She doesn't explain things well at all and expects us to do the homework without her actually teaching. She's not interesting to listen to, and I fall asleep almost every class. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with her.

This class changed my life. I've been exposed to many courses in philosophy, but this is one that I value the most. It's a shame that she will only be teaching one course next semester. I need to take more with her. Seriously, do yourself a favor. You need to meet this brilliant professor and learn all you can about what she studies.

Ancient Greek philosophy is such an interesting class. Dr. Zavota focuses on a wide scope of philosophers in this course--from Thales to Plotinus. She did her dissertation on Plotinus, so she is really interested in the later portion of the class. Overall, this class was fairly easy while also being challenging and rewarding. I recommend her!

I took Ancient Greek philosophy with Dr. Zavota. Readings and bringing the book to class are essential. Good teacher, very helpful with paper-feedback, as well as getting them back in a timely manner, which is greatly appreciated. Available to meet, and knowledgeable. Take her courses.

Dr. Zavota is really knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. We read Meno, Sophist, Euthyphro, Philebus, and Timaeus in this course. The paper topics she provides for the students are really thoughtful. Overall, this has been a wonderful experience. I will definitely take more classes with her in the future.

She gave me no motivation to learn philosophy. She was dry and boring and her tests were nothing like her notes. Goodluck getting a perfect score on any quiz or group work. You have to really listen to what shes says in class no matter how impossible that is.

Incredibly smart in many areas, and entirely devoted to her work. Presents the ideas clearly, promotes active discussion, and takes all sound opinions seriously., and, perhaps most importantly, is open to being wrong. Highly recommended.

Wow, Dr. Zavota may be one of the worst professors at Kent. She seems like a really nice person, but she doesn't know how to engage the students at all. The Friday lecture sections with the T.A. was the only thing that saved this course from being a disaster.

pretty easy class. a little too easy. she's a good professor. but the bi-weekly papers & group work were graded a too closely while the notes and exams were easy. can be boring at times, but overall, it's easy to get an A.

Ethics was definitely the worst class I've ever taken, I still have nightmares about it. The grad student section leaders don't do their job, you get a bunch of papers that you don't even get back till the last week of class. Worst ever

Great class. You don't need to do the readings, just fill out the lecture guides and study those for the 3 exams. She's very thorough in her explanations of the material. The weekly one page papers are easy points. Study for the weekly quizzes; they are pretty tricky. Take this class for a good LER. She's an excellent professor.
